    Everything he demonstrates in the show is done under the pretense that nobody is looking for you and you need to find civilization.

    Obviously this is not typically true. You are almost always better off to go find a source of water and setup camp and wait for someone to rescue you. Many of his shows he fills up his canteen and then proceeds to leave a perfectly good water source.

    I still find the show entertaining because the things he shows are technically possible. Giving yourself a bird**** enema could be the difference between life and death if you don't have clean water. And as others have said, he has the creds to back himself up even if he isn't doing it for real in the show. Do you really expect someone to risk falling 100' for a TV show when the camera crew has repelling gear?
