I was thinking this. Those guns couldn't be sold, they were ordered to be destroyed.
Guns used in crimes, ordered destroyed by court, whats the gripe?
This, on the other hand, is somewhat infuriating. I rarely have much money to spend on blades but I guess when I do, it'll be on Kershaws, ZTs, and Spydercos.

The destruction of the weapons doesn't bother me. They were helping their local police department destroy weapons that were ordered destroyed. HOWEVER, the donations to Democrats is very troubling. Donating to those people is endorsing gun control, not to mention a bunch of other crazy stuff(socialism anyone). I am not a huge Benchmade fan. I have one of their knives that i got off of a trade on here. This won't go well for them at all. The donations to Democrats is already all over my Instagram feed. Oh well still a lot of great companies out there to give my hard earned money too.

They're in Oregon... were any Republicans actually running? Those dollar amounts look like they only contribute to local campaigns. Seriously, that isn't much money at all.

My worthless opinion: Benchmade decided that it was in their best interest to give an assist to the PD.

It was photodocumented and put onto social media.

"Good corporate citizen" or not, someone at Benchmade decided it would be a good idea to assist in this manner and subsequently allow it to be photographed.

Just because a state/local law states that the PD must destroy them does not mean that a "good corporate citizen" needs to assist in that - unless they agree philosophically with the sentiment and the law.

They could've easily said "No, I'm sorry Police Department, we think this law is bad and you're bad for following a bad law". There are probably dozens of other places in that area who'd have done the same. Like Willow and June's Fabrication and Granola shop or something.

Also for we INGOers: Just because a company makes products that are enjoyed by people that may like "weapons" of many flavors doesn't mean that the company is automatically a supporter of the same things that we (generally) are. Not all "knife people" are gun people.

All that said: They've made their bed, now they have to sleep in it. I can almost guarantee there won't be much of a blip on their bottom line.

While I will admit that the optics of this looks terrible, and I question Benchmade's lack of judgment in not recognizing the negative outcome, I find it a bit alarming that the same people that claim to bleed PD blue and love to shout “fake news!” are taking advantage of this because it fits their narrative (political motivations).... it's no different than the "Fake News" jumping to conclusions before the facts have been determined.......It’s honestly embarrassing.

Police departments all over this country destroy firearms all of the time for various reasons if they can’t be resold. Why would a company not want to be a good corporate citizen, and help their local PD with something that they have.... the tools and expertise.

Benchmade's mistake was not knowing that a portion of their customer base is incapable of gathering the facts or reserving judgment until more info (facts) came out. Also, Benchmade did not realize/recognize that regardless of one's personal political views or beliefs, that if an issue is close (important) to that person like 2A, the reaction and negativity will be the same.
I dont bleed PD blue, i bleed red white and blue
Benchmades actions are the only ones that are embarrassing. Good corporate citizens lol, that was a stretch. They should have told the local police to **** off and go buy their own cutoff wheels or blow torches. Expertise bahahahaha. There's no expertise in those photos just some dumb **** hacking up metal and wood. No expertise needed.
Some people were obviously very proud of themselves because they were taking photos and posting them.
I think its pretty clear here that benchmade is no friend to the 2nd amendment and I have no use for them. Will i run out and destroy the good 3 blades of theirs i own? Hell no I'm not an idiot. Just won't buy any new ones.
The only fake news here is from the people trying to help benchmade save face

The is a MAJOR difference between a metal fabrication company contracting with the city to cut up broken and unusable arms vs an ARMS MAKER, that donates to Dems, voluntarily cutting up functional arms at no charge (as the evidence and statements seem to show).

So these guns were being destroyed anyway, by SOMEONE. And people are mad because Benchmade offered to help out the local PD? I can usually at least see the other point-of-view, but I’m lost on this one. A lot of accusations are thrown at the left about looking for fake outrage, but I think one fits the bill.

Also, Chubbs has names me his backup for the destruction of this outrageous company’s products. I urge all of those outraged to stand behind their morals and send us their knives.

    NO!!!!!

Just because the maker of those knives isn't woke doesn't make their product bad.

These knives are unloved and a product of bad parenting. They don't need destroyed - they need a good home.

    Send them to me!

I'll help them reconcile their truth and give them a good home where they can play and roam free and live a long and fulfilling life.

Just like when they come for the guns, there will be people (supposed gun owners and 2nd amendment supporters) bending over backwards to hand them in and laughing at and vilifying those that don't. People see what they want to see. I think more people have a problem with this than those that don't and there is nothing snowflake about it. Instead of money people should send benchmade cutoff wheels and hacksaw blades.

They’re cutting up tools. We don’t know the background on those tools, how the police department obtained them, or what’s wrong with them. I feel like people think BM was slaughtering bald eagles. It appears the PD needed to destroy some things and BM agreed to help. Why is it deeper than that?

I think this is what bothers me. I'm just sick of the "who are we hating today" thing.

This is a huge PR blunder for Benchmade to be sure, but I somehow doubt it was a conscious decision to be anti-gun by Benchmade (unlike statements of a very anti-gun nature from other companies that I no longer buy from). They were helping out a PD and it has come back to bite them hard. I bet the PD has to find a different company to do it next time.

I don't agree with the destruction of firearms by LE. I hate that my PD does it (good luck boycotting the company that actually destroys them for us), but there is nothing I can do about it. I wouldn't do it if they asked me to and I have the tools.

    ....

Way to prop up that strawman.

    EDIT:
. I think more people have a problem with this than those that don't and there is nothing snowflake about it.
"there is nothing snowflake about it", because that's not the meaning of snowflake. I think the word you want is "triggered".

"Snowflake" refers to a person that thinks they're special and deserves to have red carpet rolled out everywhere and given participation trophies.

...and come to think about it, yes this is exactly the meaning of "triggered". You see what appears to be perfectly useful guns being cut up by the PD. You're triggered exactly like a vegan walking by a butcher shop window.

You've taken common practice - destroying guns from crime and "buybacks", and extrapolated it into a some fiendish plan to enact gun control.

How is this different than liberal activists? Screw reality - how does it make me feel; that's what's important!

Would I like to buy that SKS? Hell yeah. But, there's probably a lot of boxes to check for the PD to sell it to me, and that's probably not a good use of tax dollars.
Do I want to see Benchmade chop up an SKS? Hell no. But, they're helping the PD. And no one gave two ****s about their campaign contributions yesterday, so why now? If that's really an issue, then pull up campaign contributions for every blade maker - round 'em all up!

    Not far from the tree
Foolish to publicize photos on a website, of a politically sensitive topic.

Foolish to destroy property that could have been sold to pay for police equipment. Definitely would sell for more than scrap prices. That makes the judge and the PD look stupid. Poor stewards of the communities funds.

If the guns were mechanically unsafe and unrepairable to saleable condition, part them out.

I own Benchmade blades but for me to continue to support them, they need to think b4 they donate gun chopping services. Dems buy knives too, I'm sure, but avoiding this fiasco would have shown better judgement. PD can buy their own cutoff saw.
