There is a deep state. It isn't the organized cabal that people seem to want to believe in. It is a very large group of lifetime placeholders be they employees of the federal government or just those suckling at the government teat. Their sole function is the maintenance and protection of the status quo. I've lived and worked there, it actually exists.

True. But there are exceptions to organization, the web of interconnection between the DOJ, FBI, the Muller investigators, not to mention Fusion, foreign diplomats and operatives is literally breathtaking, far more interesting than a Trump phone call. So much intrigue, no media curiosity...

And can be worth complaining about.

Obama cleared out the Bush people. Is this a power that Trump doesn't have? Does he not know where the drain plug is for the swamp?

It was probably fairly easy to get rid of the relatively few conservatives. You can't swing a stick in Washington an not hit a liberal.

I expected more heads to roll after all that impeachment nonsense. Dude, I'd be ordering the AG to clean house. Rip through the career guys who aren't on board and ask for their resignations.

Between the liberals and the NeverTrumpers there'd be no one left.

There's probably a lot of truth to that. Maybe it's time for the Justice Department to sit them all down in front of a lie detector and ask them questions about how their personal politics affects their job. And maybe some stuff about leaks.

Exactly. It is going to take a LOT more to get rid of the libtard swamp than anything obummer had to do to create it.

I have done some Google-fu on this and have not found anything I feel definitive. My understanding is the only people a President can fire are the ones he hires. It seems he cannot even fire a deputy AG. People keep posting this type of comment, I keep saying he can't, they are government employees with protections. Do you know or have anything different?

Not that I know of. He did fire all the bush ambassadors, but that was likely to raise donations from the new crop of ambassadors.

How about just looking at their campaign contributions? Oh, yep, that would be illegal...

The president can't fire the employees directly but he can direct those under him to fire them. But then it has to be for cause. If what is alleged is true, it seems some of those people are eligible to be fired without cause.

And I suppose even if he can't fire them, he could re-assign them to storage room B. And take away their stapler. Probably shouldn't do the latter. Things could get heated.

This just comes back to what I posted to for you recently, the courts reinstated a guy that watched porn all day on his government computer. Between the union and the DC courts it is impossible to get rid of them. I do not think department heads can fire either in a "political" or ideological clean out, even if the employees have a social media string that is indescribable, they cannot be fired.

The unintended consequences of unionizing and offering political protections to government employees was that eventually they would use that protection against administrations they did not like. We seem to have reached a critical mass, particularly in our starkly divided country, where that critical mass can actually harm an administration. Do I think a President should be able to fire the landscape crew because he found out they voted HRC, NO. The President should be 100% safe in his discussions from leaks. He should get any policy order he makes properly followed. If that is a problem for employees they should resign or be fired.

Eric Carmelmarshmellow and Schiffs impeachment assistant, who worked in the NSC at the time, openly engaged in conversation, without fear of reprisal, about doing all they can to slow the Trump policies and get the goods to impeach him. Maybe the sources are lying but it seems plausible, there is little that can be done to combat it.

If if it can be shown that he really could have fired them all, at least after impeachment, and didn't I'll call him a major dumbazz, but I don't think he can.

There is a more troubling picture emerging, the DC racket, otherwise known as the deep state, will likely hobble any republican or conservative administration from here forward. That republicans lack the ability to see and act on this, social media censorship, and the like against them is self defeating.

Obviously we need more government - super-size it. Each party could have a complete set of bureaucritters to do the work while the other set of bureaucritters plot against them. They could each tell on each other for fun but it would never achieve anything since they can't be fired. Government efficiency would stay about the same - negligible.
