There's a lot of gray area debate on this. If the bank is federally insured, it could fall under a "federal" building. If someone CC's in a bank as a customer and **** hits the fan, they would probably be happy they had their gun as opposed to being dead.

Does your employer allow you to carry at work?

I've walked into the local Centier Bank and mine was IWB, so it was partially exposed. But it was at the 4 o'clock position and wearing a black polo shirt, jeans and black ropers, they may have thought I was an LEO. Nothing happened but I make sure I pull my shirt out each time now.

Show me a law that says you can't.

That's how laws work.

You can't carry in a Federal Building. Agreed?

That is the law they are saying makes it illegal to carry in a bank. They think that because the bank is FDIC insured, that it is a Federal Building. I think they are wrong, but that's what they are asking about.

+1 Unless the law specifically says that you can't then you can. Think of it like this. Can you carry in a Burger King? Where does the law say so? Being insured by the government means nothing. If you have flood insurance it comes from FEMA. Would that mean that you could not carry in your own home just because you lived in a flood plane?

No Indiana State Law.

Federal law is limited to:
(1) The term "Federal facility" means a building or part thereof owned or leased by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties.
Citations:
Federal Firearms Laws (section 930 G.1)

The fact that their deposits are covered by FDIC is irrelevant.

I haven't tried carrying into my credit union (Eli Lilly). I have to get escorted by security, so I suppose I should ask them sometime. I'm not an employee, so.......

Thanks,

Ask them to provide you with a copy of the law, they can't because no law exist, carry in a bank is ok, I OC in my bank and they never freak out or say anything.

You are asking us to show you a law that doesn't exist, everything is legal until a law says it's illegal!

No STATE LAW... they are saying FEDERAL LAW....
but, being federally insured does not change the building or the business or the law.

insuring something does not make it YOURS... the FEDs insuring a bank.. does NOT mean they OWN it? or lawfully does it? can anyone show me a case or a Reference to the Federal LAW that includes FDIC making it a FEDERAL building..

What if the FDIC manages a bank in receivership (failed bank)? Is that temporarily a federal building then?

^^^You have to be escorted to use your CU?

He's escorted by the Lilly security folks, because that particular branch is inside a Lilly building. So it's more a Lilly thing than a CU thing.

I too had to do this for a while (I wasn't an employee, but my Father was).

Your bank prez is an ignorant ass. Hopefully, the person he victimized with his untruths, and that he caused to be unlawfully detained, will sue him and his bank into the ground for filing the unlawful complaint.

IOW, there is no law against carrying into a bank. Merely having federal insurance does not make them a federal facility.

The money is insured by the government, they don't own the building.

If I have federal flood insurance, that doesn't make my house a "federal building".

If your home is insured by State Farm, that doesn't mean that your home is now the property of State Farm.
