Never been to the show in Indy before and planning to go on Friday. Wanting to find out if you can carry inside or not? I know this is a dumb question to some but I don't know and would just like an answer. Thanks

No. They check your gun at the door to make sure it is unloaded.

I've heard (but can not confirm) that if it is disovered that you have a loaded gun, the police will escort you to the door and ask you not to return.

When you walk in the door to the 1500, there will be a table with a few officers hangin around, and they will ask if you have any firearms that you are bringing in. Each firearm is cleared and an orange zip tie is placed on the gun. This holds for any gun entering the building.

Not that I plan on getting away with anything - but sheer curiosity begs me to ask if they pat you down and/or metal detect you? I would presume they don't simply take your word for it.

Beyond that, if you really wanted to - there isn't anything to stop you from breaking the tie and popping in some ammo you bought at the show, but I couldn't say whether people do that or not.

It all works on the honor system.

Once I had an officer ask me to unload my magazine too.

There are a lot of people who just stay concealed. So treat it as you would anywhere with a no guns policy (besides gov. stuff) if that is your inclination.

The down side to that is that you can be asked to leave, but more importantly...If you don't have what you brought in zip tied, you run the risk of being hassled about whether or not you stole the gun off a table since you don't have a zip-tie or a receipt of purchase.. (This happens at nearly every 1500 I work.) It basically wastes 20 minutes of your time as long as the gun really isn't stolen. :)

    Concealed is concealed.

Perfectly legal to carry at the gun show. CC or OC. Or both. Or two of each.

Show rules dictate that it must be shown unloaded & ziptied.

Of course, that only applies to those who are paying admission. Vendors aren't held to the same standard.

    Interesting.

    Concealed is concealed.
Indeed - I have yet to find a good holster that I can conceal my XDm-40 3.8 well with. To be honest, not even 100% sure how to find a good conceal holster other than going on the word of others and/or trying them out at a shop.

Most of the shops I've been to don't have a huge selection of holsters.

They also check all firearms when you exit the building. They either have to have an orange sip tie (for the ones you brought) or a white zip tie (the ones you purchased) accompanied by a sticker from the dealer.

That being said, if you don't plan on doing ANY trading or looking for accessories for your EDC, and it is going to remain in its holster the ENTIRE time, then go for it. It's not against the law. The problem is when you stop by that booth and see that holster that you always wanted to try out, and then realize that you didn't clear your gun at the door.

Doesn't apply if you know how to sneek in without paying either. But, you are still liable to be hassled when you leave without a zip tie on it.

Do not check a gun in that has rounds in it period. You will still get in to the show, but will
    A loose your ammo
B feel like a complete dumba**
    C receive a complete verbal a** chewing
BTW I have never had this happen to me, but have seen it.

Here is the problem with CC ing a non checked in handgun, IMHO. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I can remember when you could carry in a show and no one checked anything, then a bunch of ND and dumb people doing dumb things and here we are. When you break the rules we all pay the consequences in even more restrictions. :twocents:

At the last couple shows in Evansville, they had a sign on the wall as you go in saying that, you will be arrested if you load a gun or are found with a loaded gun inside the show.

As others have said, it is not illegal to conceal (loaded), but against their policy. They just happen to have IMPD there to enforce the policy.

If you DO unload, do so prior to entering. You are own your own to find a "safe" direction for your muzzle. Pocket your mag. If you attempt to unload at the table with the cops, they will be PISSED (oops, sorry guys. That was my first show). That's when they have you unload the mag as well and read you the riot act.

If you do conceal, please leave it holstered. We get enough ND's from the vendors. Don't need them from attendees, too.

Vendors are told, repeatedly, during setup to make sure there are no loaded guns in their respective areas. They are also told that if something is found loaded they will be removed from the building and never allowed to return.. Vendors generally do very well there so it would be a pretty big hit to be banned from the show. So, IMHO they are held to the same standard.

Personally, I'm not too keen on carrying anything in a holster anyway because the nuts-to-butts crowd is ripe for pickpockets. Even if the gun didn't get stolen, it would drive me nucking futs to have people constantly bumping into my holstered gun all day. I'd be bonkers.

Anything I take or buy will either be carried in hand, or in some kind of bag.
