Weren't they blocking traffic and demanding more gun control literally a few days ago?

Here the police are taking dangerous illegal guns off the street, and all the people of Chiraq can do is riot about it. Well, which is it!?

Beginning to think the only coherent political belief in that city is "we like rioting and breaking things".

Another incident where outside special interest group money comes in and takes advantage of a tragedy and uses the local grieving or upset citizens and whips them into a mob against the police and the government. This **** should be illegal. This isnt a protest by the people this is inciting a riot for political agenda. They get additional people killed and hurt and then in a month they pull out and its onto the next one for them.
The black community are the stooges to the Democrat socialist party.
It is truly sickening how they really are held down and kept from flourishing because the Democrats need them to stay uneducated victims so they keep voting Democrat.
If the REAL black man and woman of America knew the lies their black leaders and the Democrats have perpetrated against them they would burn it all down.

Wait. Did the police confront him simply because they observed that he had a gun?

When did we start being in favor of this?

I can see the concern here; however, can the police stop you and talk to you if your gun is not concealed? Printing? May be a fine line but we are talking Illinois conceal law. I would love to know why they confronted him.

Regardless of why. If you wish to be shot/killed then run away and reach for your gun. Your wish will be granted.

He was carrying in a big thumbreak OWB holster with a double mag carrier on the other side, poorly concealed under a t-shirt. If he was trying to avoid attention as an illegal carrier, he was doing a poor job of it.

Are we talking about what the State of Illinois deems legal and illegal about the ownership and carrying of guns, or what one would conclude from reasonable reading of the 2d Amendment?

I don't think there's any question that the stop was legal under Illinois law, and then the way it developed and what the dead guy did made it justifiable self-defense.

I am talking about the initial engagement. Assuming that it was simply that they noticed he had a gun, what makes starting down this road a good thing? Was it?

Remember, this is Chicago, Illinois, not Indiana.

Obviously once it escalated to the point where he was going to draw his weapon LE had every right to defend themselves. However, (and maybe I'm misreading this) it seems like this is a Pinner type case where LE were detaining someone just for carrying a gun.

The Chief seems to be admitting as much here:

"The only fact that saves the officer's stop of DeBerry, in my opinion, is the fact that it is unlawful in Illinois to carry a concealed weapon."

Dunno if having a gun is a reason to be stopped.
But the run and attempted draw kinda supports their wanting to check him out.
If legal to carry, and nothing else wrong.........why run?
And no, I aint buying a black man's natural born fear of the cops.

Even if the police were out of line and stoopid, running and grabbing your gun..........is extra stupid.

I bet some other crap was going on.

Does that sign really say abolish cpd now? Wow. That’ll sure help the crime rates. I say [STRIKE]give em a paid vacation and send in the guard for a month[/STRIKE] and absolutely refuse to answer any calls whatsoever.
