At the Toronto G20 summit on 6/21/2010, Canadian police were photographed abusing citizens. One citizen got a fractured skull from the beating. However, even after an investigation, it could not be determined which officers were in the photograph, because they were masking their faces.

This is a story from Canada, but the exact same costumes are worn routinely in this country. Is the real reason for hiding an effort to protect the State from accountability?

gas masks are like hot claustrophobia while breathing through a straw. Just to help you in your quest for justice...the sneaky unknown masked officer with his foot on the hippie's backpack will be the only black person employed by the police in all of canada.
    That should narrow your search.

I have done CQB force on force against men wearing masks .
You have a distinct advantage when it come to prolonged movement .
You can breath they have to use their diaphragm much harder ... of course there was no gas or smoke in the air so we had the advantage .

    Thanks

there's also the added benefit that it's easier to blind or disorient people wearing masks by just grabbing the filter and pulling either way. I hate wearing masks and trying to do anything other than basic tasks.

    Canadian Frank-N-Stein? Francis-and-Steinbeck? :D

Admittedly, the G20 summit was a nightmare for anyone protesting it. Show up with a sign with a bunch of rich financial country heads, they can pay the police to do anything to you. Had it been held in another, let's say less developed, country, arrest and potentially torture could have been involved. The rich don't like the sheep to bleet in anger over their irresponsible fiscal actions...

As the consequences of World Socialism begins to play out and the inevitable collapse of these wealth distribution polices begin to be realized more frequently and to greater degrees, we are going to be seeing more and more "protests". I am all for protecting the safety of officers, but not at the expense of them being able to hide behind masks without a viable form of identifying those that infringe our rights. If they wear anything that hides identity, they need to have something that enables an identity to be determined, perhaps a number with their unit that clearly stands out on their uniform. This "hidden identity storm trooper" image does not bode well for freedom.

I don't consider the gas mask to be the same thing as say a balaclava or similar garment. Gas masks do have a function, they aren't soley used to hide the face.
