How in depth are these bag searches? I bought a 5.11 Moab 10, would I be okay with the hidden pocket?

I was there last fall, when and what I carried was never an issue. Due to the investment and feeling out what security was there, and the crowd complications of the day, there were times I did not carry a firearm inside the parks, though had I wanted to I would have been able.

I was never without a firearm on my person in the state of FL outside of Disney property...especially anywhere within the Orlando city limits. At the beach it was in a ziplock bag in my swimsuit pocket (one that would Velcro or button shut).

Tourists are nothing but an income opportunity for many of the locals.
Going out after dark anywhere in the Orlando area is like being on night foot patrol in 1960's Nam. :noway:

The disney bag search is visual and they probe a bit, but mainly with their eyes. You could have it wrapped in a shirt in the bottom and probably be fine. Or just put it in your pocket, or IWB holster. They will lift and feel the bottom of the bag.

My extended family and I were there early December. We drove down ( :n00b: ) & stayed on property. After inquiring thru AAA about the policy and such, we found out that the resorts have a Safety Deposit Box setup for guests that would like to secure something while staying on property.

When we arrived at the Art of Animation Resort (young niece loves this stuff) and had completed checking in, I informed the Cast Member taking care of us that I'd like to secure something while on property. He called over his Mgr on duty & I explained what I was wanting to secure. The Mgr called for a Security Officer to our location. Once the Security Officer arrived, the three of us went to a private room around the corner. I proceeded to clear my two firearms, placed the firearms in the box (including mags / ammo), and filled out a few forms. The Box had two keys required to open, which I kept one and the Mgr on duty keeps one. No hassle. No JBT issues w/ Security. When we checked out, the same thing happened & they watched me walk out the doors after gathering my firearms. We visited Downtown Disney on our way out of town, so I carried while there... At no time did I feel that there were any issues or concerns for my or my family's safety.

If you decide to leave property during your stay for a trip to the grocery or whatever, you are welcome to check your firearms out and check them back in.

If you decide to CC while there, please keep in mind that IF YOU ARE FOUND OUT, they can and will ask you to leave property. I'm not sure if you would forfeit you tkts for that day or if you would be escorted off property. I chose not to find out.

When I was down there a couple of years ago, security went nuts on my clip knife (2.5" blade, not tactical looking at all). The bag checker told me it was ok, just keep it in my pocket. Well I clipped it back to my cargo short pockets and walked in. As we were walking around the circle getting ready to enter main street, I see a female plain clothes security guard make a bee-line for me. She quizzed me on what the clip was and when I showed her, and told here that the gate guard told me it was ok, she stated that it needed to be completely in my pocket. I am guessing that she was on the lookout for clip-draws. But just an FYI that they are VERY observant and know how people conceal weapons. She picked me out from 30yds away.

Disney has MUCH more security than anyone knows, and very little of it is visible...

This company has made a living off of skewing perceptions and morphing reality to bring guests into a place that is, by perception, far far away from reality. They would not ruin that by having TSA type child molesters and intrusive metal detection.

Walt Disney World fires back on guns at work - Orlando Sentinel

Walt Disney World fires back on guns at work
July 3, 2008|By Scott Powers and Jason Garcia, Sentinel Staff Writers
Walt Disney World employees won't be packing any heat in the company parking lots anytime soon.

The giant resort has declared that much of its sprawling property is exempt from a new state law that allows Floridians with concealed-weapons permits to keep firearms locked in their cars at work.

Disney, which has 60,000 employees and a long-standing policy against allowing guns on its land, cites an arcane -- and late-added -- loophole in the new law, which took effect Tuesday.

The company's position stunned backers of the new law, who said Wednesday that they never intended to exempt Florida's largest single-site employer.

"You've got to be kidding me," said state Sen. Durell Peaden, a Panhandle Republican and one of the authors of the bill.

For three years, much of the big-business community in Florida -- including Disney, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation -- had vigorously opposed legislation intended to ensure that employees could store guns in their vehicles while at work. That opposition was offset by strong support from the National Rifle Association, however, and such a bill finally was approved this spring by the state Legislature.

But Disney now contends it is largely unaffected by the measure.

In a memo circulated last week and obtained by the Orlando Sentinel, Disney World Vice President of Public Affairs Shannon McAleavey advised other company executives that, with a few exceptions, "this law does not apply to Walt Disney World Co. owned and leased properties." Consequently, Disney "continues to maintain a zero tolerance policy" for guns. If an employee brings one onto Disney World property without authorization, it could be grounds for termination, the memo states.

In an interview Wednesday, McAleavey said it is a matter of "protecting the safety of our cast and our guests."

    Move outrages NRA

    The NRA reacted quickly.

The organization issued an alert Wednesday to members under the heading, "Disney Thumbing Nose at the New Florida Gun Law," accusing Disney of being a "prime offender when it comes to firing employees for exercising Second Amendment rights."

Disney cites language within Florida's newly enacted "Preservation and Protection of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Motor Vehicles Act of 2008" that creates an exception for companies whose primary business is to manufacture, use, store or transport explosives regulated under federal law.

"I intended it to exempt places like defense plants, Air Force bases, things like that," said Peaden, who sponsored the bill in the Senate. "But not Disney. Not at all."

But on the same day that the House took its final vote on the gun bill, the exemption for explosives companies was revised so that it also includes "property owned or leased by an employer who has obtained a permit" under federal law for such explosives.

Disney has such a permit, for the extensive fireworks used in its theme parks.

State Rep. Stan Mayfield, a Vero Beach Republican also involved in crafting the final legislation, said lawmakers had agreed to insert that exception at the request of a small group of lawyers representing several businesses and business groups -- including Disney.

Looks like WDW is Legally a No Go if the info from Securology: Disney World Security - Part 2 is correct.

WDW uses an "explosives license" it holds due to the quantity of fireworks displays it puts on at its parks daily to be exempt from a Florida law that would otherwise allow those with CCW permits to carry into the park.

My understanding from previous research is that if caught you will be evicted from the property. That said I stayed at Fort Wilderness and kept a firearm locked in my vehicle during the day and with me in the camper at night.

As a side note I flew into Orlando this January. No problems checking the firearm either direction.

That is Disney's policy to the letter! It's not stated on their website apart from the Disney Campsire Resort, but if you call Disney and speak with a level 2 rep that is the policy and they are real good about no bs about it in terms of you chekcing it in and they not giving you any cr*** about it.

So, I've read several of the Disney related threads and I haven't seen the answer yet.

How does it work if you are flying there, and staying on Disney property? Without a handgun checked in the past we really didn't see our bags when we arrived until they showed up in the room. Disney gets the bags from baggage claim and takes them directly to the property/ our room. That doesn't seem to work if I have to claim the handgun at arrival. What is the change of process that is needed at the arrival end? BTW I leave Monday so I'm likely to not get this figured out with enough confidence to risk doing something accidental and ruin a vacation but if it is an easy work around I'm all for it.

Question stands for future reference but I just figured out that we will be flying in, staying on Disney property 100% of the time including transportation to and from different Disney properties, and then coming home. I'm going to feel naked but to abide by their rules I'd basically be leaving my EDC in some form of a checked area from the time I leave to the time I return. If I traveled more and I was more comfortable with the process I'd have no problem taking it but as it stands (all things considered) I think I'm going to trust Disney security this coming week and leave it home.

If you are staying on property, using the Disney bus from the airport and only going to the parks. In my opinion it would be more of hassle to take a firearm if you are flying to MCO/WDW.

Disney is very secure in my opinion. The only trouble I have heard of is with certain groups of guests from South America (Brazil), even then it's mostly just plain rudeness.

We went earlier this year and I had the same dilemma; check firearm in luggage or not. I ended up not taking a firearm and have no regrets. As much as we went to the parks and as much walking as we did it would have been a pain the rear (unless maybe a small pocket pistol).

I did however pack several flashlights, and carried a good folder (not visible). Had not one single problem security wise.

I might advise that you spend a day at USF/IOA and ride Harry Potter. It is probably one of the best dark rides in existence.

This is my logic exactly. I've been a "carry everywhere legally possible" guy for many years now but I haven't been on vacation since before making myself that promise. I've been to Disney 2-3 times but not since being a EDC guy.
