Seems odd that the department will allow SBRs but not cans. Hope they change that soon for you, and anyone in the room if you had to fire it.

No, only a handful of guys carry SBR's

It's probably linked to the general public perception of silencers.

People don't really know how long or short a rifle is supposed to be, but they all know that only assassins use silencers on TV.

Our patrol rifles are all 16 inch. I think that is pretty standard most places.

I have SBRs with cans on them... but I have never assassinated anyone. Then again I have never been on TV either.

I call BS!

Not one tactical donut carrier among you guys. I'd have at least one on my utility belt and a crush proof compartment in the vehicle. How else do you make it through the day?

It’s not so much of that, as it is a good percentage of officers provide their own rifle and most of us can’t afford tax stamps and suppressors, and the department DEFINITELY is not gonna pony up for those for the rank and file. SWAT guys, range instructors and brass get all the toys.

Well nobody should have to pay a $200 tax to get the right to purchase a product to protect one's hearing.

I wasn't sure if the police was exempt of stamps to purchase NFA items.

The departments are exempt I believe, but not the individuals. Sad really.

Even over here silencers are not as heavily regulated.
I can buy a .22 silencer shipped to my house for $50 plus shipping.
You just need to be over 18 and show a copy of your hunting/shooting licence.
No tax other than the VAT included in the price, no background check or registration.

But they should be as regulated as earmuffs.I shouldn't have to show my ID to buy one.
