The Lost Battalion ( 2001) is a pretty decent flick, Rick Schroeder is excellent as Major Charles Whittlesey

Band of Brothers gets my vote, even though it's not really a movie but a series. Also, Saving Private Ryan where that initial beach scene was breathtaking.

Some classic WWII movies, which I grew up watching with my father:

    Tora! Tora! Tora!
    The Great Escape
The Bridge on the River Kwai
    The Guns of Navarone

The scene where the ramp dropped and the MG42 took out everyone on the Higgins boat? That got to me.

FULL METAL JACKET is great. Saving Private ryan was also a good one. Im going to have to go and watch some of these now. Enemy at the gates when they first get to Stalingrad and they give the mosin to one guy and the ammo to another. Great scene.

A lot of the older movies I haven't seen in years. Before cable, there were always old war movies on channel 4 here in Indy. It's how I survived Sundays in the winter.

Full Metal Jacket is my favorite.

I see We Were Soldiers on Netflix. It has Mel Gibson in it and came out in 2002. Is that the one that's listed several times in this thread or is there a different/older one?

That's the one. If you've not seen it, I highly recomend it

If we're going old school, most of John Wayne's movies are at the very least good entertainment. Having seen them all, I feel qualified to comment as such.

How about Kelly's Heroes? Improbable but funny and gripping. (at least to me) If I had to pick one, IMO" Patton" wins.

T.R fans also might like Rough Riders, it's a little cheesy in parts but it has a lot of familiar faces and is a rare treatment of the Spanish American War. R Lee Ermey as Salem Indiana born John Hay.
