Production vs limited. What are the differences?

I may actually be able to make it out this time. :D

    Limited:
Any center fire pistol with open sights. There is no limit on
magazine capacity; you may load magazines to full capacity.
Pistols can be customized / modified. No optics, ports,
    compensators, or external weights.

    Production:
Service type Double-action (DA), double-action only (DAO), or Safe-
Action center fire handguns. DA handguns with an external
hammer must fire the first shot double-action. Load magazines to
a maximum of 10 rounds. No external modifications are permitted
with the exception of replacement sights, grips, and the application
of “skateboard tape”. No optics, ports, compensators, or external
weights. All production pistols are listed as production pistols on
the USPSA web site (Welcome to USPSA.org - Home of the United States Practical Shooting Association). A complete list of approved

Then why would you wan to even do Prod over Limited? Seems limited is the better way to go...

    For the challange?

Actually it levels the playing field in my opinion for the higher calibers.

40 and 45's can only hold roughly 10 (give or take 2-3 depending on the gun), so they have to reload if they need more. Someone shooting 9mm, with 17 rounds may not. Just levels the field.

I like to shoot Limited so I can
    1. Reload mags less
    2. If I run the 17 rounds out of the mag on the plates. I'll just take the 30 sec time instead of wasting even more ammo cause if I can't hit it with 17 forget it.
    3. Because I can't stop counting at 10 when loading the mags. ;)

Limited changes the level of people you are shooting against in your class

Sometimes, but often there are more new shooters in Limited at FNS than Production because they want to be able to load the magazines to capacity in case they miss a lot. I've found there are usually a few top class shooters in both divisions and I finish about the same place in either one using the same gun. It depends upon who shows up, though.

I'm planning on being there. I look forward to a fun, if cold match this Friday and to Anton being the Match Director :D

For those who haven't shot in the cold before, keep in mind that guns are more likely to jam, especially if you use heavy oil or grease to lube the moving parts. I typically have to switch to a thinner oil to get my gun to run 100% in the cold. For my 22, I am not typically able to get the reliability out of it (even with CCI mini mags) that I want for competition in the cold. That being said, whatever you're shooting, it is a level playing field for all the competitors within a given division.

Please dress WARMLY (boots, gloves, bibs, etc. will be fairly normal) and have a safe, fun time!

What does he shoot? I finally got the G34 out of box-stock form, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that fairs. :woot:

He shoots whichever Glock he's feeling the need to test drive that night. He's won almost the complete set from the Glock matches, so he's got a few to choose from :D

I'll leave it up to a somebody that competes with Glocks to tell you the full list of things to do, but with a basic trigger job, tungsten guide rod, and maybe some sights, you can be competitive with anybody using that gun. You just need to focus on practicing with that gun, and compete at a bunch of different matches. The harder the other matches you compete at, the easier FNS will seem in the future.
