Somebody told me you pay all the fees at L1 and get fingerprinted, but you still have to visit your local police station or statehouse...Why is this? Or is this person wrong?

The main reason I wanted to go through L1 is so I dont have to go through the hassle of going to the police station

That's true. I started my life time LTCH process on line and set my appointment with L1 on line also, you still have to go to your local PD to finish up the process. The plus side to using L1 is how fast everything goes through, got my LTCH in 2 weeks. When I first received my letter from the state I was livid before I opened it, because of how fast it came back I thought it was a rejection to my pleasant surprise it wasn't.

    http://aries.in.gov/Firearms/Permit.aspx

This is the easiest and fastest way to apply for or renew your permit.
You pick your county ,fill it out, then click on L1-Identity solutions option and make an appointment for electronic fingerprinting at nearest L1 center.
You can also pay State fees with debit card at this point.
Then go to your local Police Department pay local fee and they will print out your application for you to sign. Then It will be in your mailbox within 7 days, sometimes earlier.

I have some questions. I went to the site online. It asked if you have ever had a liscense. I have a little over a decade ago and don't remember my liscense number. It also asks about misdeamenors. I was arrested for a PI over a dacade ago too not sure what it was classified as but it was before I had my handgun permit. What should I do about those two questions any advice.

u still need to go to your local pd and pay those fees as well, but i recomend doing it the L1 rout, it took me 6 days from file to finish, i was able to carry in 6 days!! L1 is the only way to go, if u file the old way, u will wait 14 weeks( that is the current wait time):ingo:

I have my L1 appointment Monday.

*Stupid Question* Where is the Marion County PD where I will need to drop off the local MO and sign the application?

You pay the state and L1 fees when L1 does your fingerprints. Once the background check is complete, you go to the PD, pay the local fee, and the locals send the app on.

+ 1 on the L1 process...the L1 folks were helpful and the process was easy, I sent my stuff in Thursday. They said it would take "a couple of weeks" so now I wait. Let us know how long yours actually took.

A friend of mine just filled out the online portion. Filed it for Delaware county, without realizing that he might not be able to since he's in Grant co. (From what he says, the online form doesn't have a Grant co option to choose? If so, why not?)

Does anyone know, when he shows up at the Muncie PD, if they will turn him down because he's a resident of a different county?

My wife and I had to renew our LTCHs last month. We both applied
for the lifetime personal protection LTCH. When we renewed the last
time we had to apply in the month before the lifetime was available.

We completed the online application for the state on Thursday July 8th
and made an appointment with L1 Identity Solutions for Saturday.

State online application, Application for Handgun License

There is a link on the state page after you submit the application
that allows you to schedule an appointment with L1.
To schedule an appointment with L1, L-1 Identity Solutions, Enrollment Services Division in Indiana

We visited the L1 location in Merrillville on Saturday July 10th so they
could record our fingerprints. We also paid the state and L1 fees with
    a money order in the amount of $70.95 ($60.00 state, $10.95 L1).

We visited our local law enforcement agency to pay the local fee and
complete the application process on Thursday July 15th.
We paid with a money order in the amount of $40.00.
Crown Point PD will only process handgun applications on Thursday mornings.
The PD clerk is part time and has a limited schedule.

We both received our LTCHs in the mail on Monday July 19th,
and they were both dated as being issued July 15th.

Very easy and hassle free process. :yesway:
