What does it all mean? I wasn't a gun owner during the AWB times... Does this mean if I want to one day build an AR-10, I better buy the receiver now?

Or I will be able to buy receivers in the future, but just won't have 20round mags?

I went through it, it sucked.
wont be able to get either the receiver or the magazines other than maybe from private individuals but if they regulate private sales you probably won't be able to scare it up that way either. Thus the basis for the panic of 2012

"obamas not coming for you guns put down the tin foil"

You don't remember seeing anything like that? Really?!

I remember some pointing out how BHO actually expanding our "gun rights" by signing bills allowing us to carry in parks and AmTrak...is that what you're thinking about?:)

He has called upon Congress to:

    • Reinstate an assault weapons ban
    • Pass legislation that would close the gun show "loophole"
    • Limiting high-capacity ammunition clips.

    1) The rifle used in CT was not an assault weapon per the definition of the 1994 AWB.

    2) The killer did not use the gun show "loophole" to get his guns.

    3) The magazine the killer used in the rifle was the standard magazine that comes with that rifle.

    So that's 3 strikes for that ....

Not too familiar with the assault weapons ban....does that mean they wont be legal to own, buy, sell, shoot, carry and/or hang on the wall and drool over?

The 1994 AWB made it illegal to "make new" rifles that had certain features on them (ie. no bayonet lug, no flash suppressor, etc.)

If you owed one already or say company ABC made one before the date the law passed it could still be sold and you could still use it.

This is not to say that the new weapons ban will be the same. They might want to make all rifles illegal with no grandfather clause.

"mass shootings aren’t the heart of America’s gun dilemma. Despite all the media attention mass shootings receive, these high-profile and awful incidents count for only a fraction of a percentage of annual gun deaths. As Obama himself noted in the debate, in cities like Chicago “there’s an awful lot of violence and they’re not using AK-47s. They are using cheap hand guns.”"

And handguns are really what they want to ban.
