It usually takes me about 2-3 hrs cleaning my 1911 is this normal or am I just too damn OCD? :n00b:

I've owned other plastic guns (Glock 23 & PT145) but it seems I never took as long with those as I do my 1911's. It usually took me 30- 45 mins max to do those. :dunno:

I'll lean towards way to OCD... :): ;)

I enjoy cleaning my weapons after a range session very much but even with taking my time and examining parts for wear and tear, and also just admiring the engineering and manufacture of a quality weapon, I'd say that the longest it would take me is around 45 minutes tops.

But hey...if you got 2-3 hours to spend then more power to ya!! :yesway:

Usually between 20 and 30 minutes. Although the first couple times it was an hour +, taking in the inner beauty.

I have taken that long at times, but usually its a quick and fast brush off the grime, lube the rails and punch the barrel. When I am alone, and its raining all day, I have been known to spend the entire day rotating guns from the safe to the reload bench for detailed cleaning.

Sounds to me like some of y'all are over-cleaning...

And over-cleaning can be even more harmful on a weapon than not cleaning it.

It usually takes me a couple of hours to do a thorough cleaning after a range trip, and put stuff away. But I have an excuse.....I'm cleaning my wifes gun too ! Oh well....:dunno:

Got to go with schafe on this one. I got mine(1911-AR-XD9),the wife's(AR),the boys (10/22), and baby girl's (pink cricket),sometimes 12ga. total time 3-4 hrs. bout 35-40 min. each. first time I done my 1911 took me an hour and a half. But you need to take care of what you want to take care of you. If the need arises.

I clean my M&P after every match or extended training session. Usually if I fire more than 150 rounds, it gets cleaned. Cleaning time is 20-40 minutes, depending on my personal time constraints.

20 mins to clean the pistol.

10 minutes to find the spring cap.

3 hours for the round knurled marked and swelling on your forehead to go away :D

Aren't you glad you forgot to remove your shooting glasses? :):

:dunno: How is this possible? Aren't all firearms supposed to be cleaned and well lubed after a shooting session? I'm not trying to be a smart@$$ I would just like a bit of elaboration.

I can't say for sure on my Glock 22, I bought it in 1999 and it only has about 17,000 rounds through it. I'm not planning on cleaning it until it gets dirty. :)

Seriously, I normally spend 20 minutes on my 1911's - the little ones take longer for some reason (that's what she said).

30 minutes if I just give it a good field strip/clean. I shoot a 2011, about every 2 month's I'll completely diassemble, remove grip from frame, drop all the internals, clean, inspect, lube and reassemble. 2 hours for this chore.
