    At the Ranch.
+1 on wired over wireless cams. We are all POE in the attic to a gig switch then fiber from the attic to main switch and router. The fiber was to protect the rest of the house network if a lightning strike hits the cams on the outside. Lightning does weird stuff to ethernet. They dont play well together.

If you dedicate a computer to operating your cameras and they are all hard wired to your network, if that computer is not connected to internet or any kind of wifi, bluetooth, whatever, wouldn't it me next to impossible to hack it would getting into one of the cables?

Yes. And that requires being close enough to being filmed on one of the cameras.

This thread jack is a good one and should be it's own thread or renamed, before it digresses to red heads.

(slight threadjack, but making a point) Isn't that why the Battlestar Galactica survived? No networked computers means hackers have to be inside.

If it is the eyebleach redhead I am OK with it....really.

But in the stream of these discussions on HD is not a good layered security part of the discussion.

Along with a hot red head or even 5.
