How will the funeral services be affected due to the virus? I hope the city can still give her the proper Honors and also somehow allow the community to pay tribute. I hope this will mean something to her son one day. I know IMPD has an excellent video guy.

We have been wondering the same thing. I'm sure whatever is decided upon will be up to standards.

That said, and on a note of why people suck:
Apparently East District posted a photo on their bookface page yesterday of the shift gathering together after the shooting and some busybody actually called in to East District to complain about the lack of "social distancing".

And the sheep force their will upon you.

Time to shear some sheep I think.

    But I digress.

If the busybody needs the police, they should be told they're on their own, because ... social distancing.

He gave up like the coward that he is.
Ah yep one of those like usual. Big and bad when they are shooting at helpless people or behind walls and cover but when its time for the good guys to get their turn at returning fire they **** themselves and cant give up fast enough or then want to negotiate.
Yep, he's a little (female dog).
IMPD has earned my respect over the years by the way the treat these vermin after the fact. Maintaining their honor as Police Officers and safely escorting these vermin to get their day in court. Massive respect IMPD!

preliminary word on the street is that services might be at IMS so as to accommodate a crowd and maintain social distancing. I'm actually a big fan of that plan.

You know, part of me (actually a whole lot of me) would like to see a Mayor who pauses in the middle of the press conference to say, "To the people who called in to complain about social distancing...get a life."

21st and Shadeland is a tough neighborhood, and although I know officers generally have a great sense of duty regardless where they're stationed, it is a shame that a good person who's part of the solution has to be sacrificed to that. It seemed like that place was always a zoo, every week it was something, bodies in dumpsters, guns-drawn warrant service, dogs chasing people down in the street. The officers have my respect just for showing up for work in a place where so many have so little respect for life.

I haven't logged in to Ingo for quite some time but this really hurts. Such a young and inspirational person who left us way too soon. My prayers go out to the family and all of our police officers, please stay safe out there and thank you for your service during times like these.

I can't quit thinking of Breann Leath.
Like many of you, I have close friends in the health industry and in law enforcement, and I pray for them daily.

My heart breaks when I think of this 24 yr. old breath-of-sunshine Indy policewoman who was wantonly killed.
I especially have been bringing her family & friends & fellow officers before God that they might somehow find peace in all this tragedy.
I can't imagine how they are dealing with & struggling over anger/rage: I know my humanity, I would be.
I have chosen to be a person of faith from my youth, but I really don't know how I'd be able to deal with this if it was my daughter.
I just shake my head over this in stunned sadness.

The only sense to be made of it is that it is a product of the culture in the inner city. Arguments, disagreements and ‘disrespect’ are routinely countered with targeted ‘spray and pray’ gunfire. Conflict resolution and simply walking away might as well be an alien language in many parts of our city.

I was a teacher in 5 different decades, 4 in IPS (recently retired last summer).
    I get it.
I used any opportunity in class telling stories, whether it was in Psychology/Sociology or History/Geography from my readings & life experience.
I specialized in reading articles from a myriad of sources to begin class with trying to instill character & the power of choice & going for the long view.
I had a foster brother 4 yrs. older who went to prison twice & died there at only 20 yrs. old.
I could have followed his path, but for my faith, even an immature youthful faith that I can only thank my God that it has provided me with a rich life with the wife of my youth.
