I wish this guy all the best. Hopefully he escapes criminal charges, and also a civil suit by the perps family. Unfortunately as messed up as things are I could see him losing that.

Any updates on this? Did the shooter get arrested or charged?

How this plays out can have a major impact on a lot of issues...

I looked for more stories on this case. Most didn't even mention the victim had an IN LTCH. One other did mention the shooter is not facing any charges, but no updates that I can find.

I enjoy Chicago's opportunities for fun, yet have avoided the beautiful city because of their politics for the last few decades...

Sound like a great job of protecting himself and (unfortunately) a test case for the next decade.

I would like to enjoy what is in chicago more, because there is a lot up there. I have, however, also avoided the place, to an extreme degree, for the same reason. The politics of the place ruin it for visitors from relatively free states like Indiana. Even knowing the chance I'll need my carry gun is small, I'll stay away on principal feeling they don't deserve my dollars be spent in their city.

Well, if you look at the words, they "could" be victims of "gun violence". They were killed by a gun.
They just FAIL to mention, that someone could be killed in the defense of life.

Had these people not been "victims" of gun violence, they would have been perpetrators of gun violence. It's such a simple concept, yet well above their level of logic.

    Of course.
Anti-gunners have been caught red handed many times putting criminals and legal shoots in their statistics.
One instance that comes to mind is the Boston Bomber.

Or when they lump 16 and 17 year-old gang members into "children shot or killed with guns."
