IndyGo is slowing down service for the Red Line and 2 other routes

Here is another article behind their subscriber pay wall, so I haven't read it and it's likely no one here can access it, but when you even have the Indy Star calling the Redline a failure, you know this whole thing really is a disaster.

The Red Line failed in the most predictable, infuriating way

"The new changes comes as IndyGo removes more than 500 bus stops in what it says is an effort to speed up service."

Gee, just think how fast their service would be if they just eliminated all the bus stops! Like greased lightning I tell ya! :lmfao:

These sort of projects do exactly what they are supposed to, make the people who promote it rich.

Deja Vu all over again ...

IndyGo has now closed several of their stations along the Red Line for reconstruction and “enhancements.”

“It looks like they are wasting taxpayers’ money, that’s what it looks like. I thought it was already done,” Sean Booker who works a few blocks from the Red Line station at 14th and Capitol, said.

Capitol Ave. from 16th street to Washington Street looks like the Red Line is still under construction. The entire Red Line bus lane on Capitol Ave. is closed as contractors remove cracked concrete and repair damaged asphalt caused by Red Line buses. For daily riders, the construction is confusing.

“They are just tearing it up as fast as [they] built it up,” Indianapolis resident, Shenka Howard, said.

We might have to change the title to cover the Blue line.

Original construction estimate in 2019 - $220 million. New estimate in 2022 - $520 million.

Natural gas powered buses are the cleanest option available today when looking at a well-to-wheel analysis of carbon intensity, particularly when using renewable natural gas, which actually can get the carbon intensity score below zero.

A natural gas bus is also about 1/3 rd the cost of an electric bus, can run the full route without having to be recharged, doesn't need to run a diesel heater in the winter, can make the full route without stopping to refuel, and the fuel costs about half as much as diesel per gallon equivalent.

I'd like to know if the company which gets awarded the contract to build and rebuild this boondoggle is family, businesses associate, or a donor to, anyone in city government.

I'm not saying there is corruption, but, oh wait, that's exactly what I think this is.

Half a BILLION dollars for a bus line!? One bus line!?

Here let me do it for you:

    Step one: Buy bus.

Step two: Install 20 or so bus stop signs for about $100 each.

    Step three: Drive the bus.

It is slightly more complicated than that, but only slightly.

You can't be a stylish city without an expensive, money losing public transit system. It must be one of those boxes you have to check.;)

Looked it up just for fun. This bus line is $150 million more than 21 miles of partially new terrain I69 Section 5.

    For a bus.
