I was a bit surprised by the above since they made it sound like he needed help because the ALS was so bad. Now he needs help to go to the Ukraine.

My thoughts also. I watched my grandfather die of ALS. It's a *****.

Probably if I was in his shoes I'd do the same though better than the other option.
