Yeah I don't think it is too legal to carry at school since it is state owned. But if you're willing to take the risk then by all means. Do you have a license to carry at all? I personally think if you have a license you should be able to at school, not much different than the mall as far as i'm concerned.

Anyways, I was just at books-a-million (there's one on the northwest sdie) and on the magazine rack there is a 2008 buyers guide. If you don't want a kel-tec, there are more options in there...

have you looked at going with a revolver, under 2 inch barrel and a .38, very potent combination?

Revolver would he an excellent choice. The 38 Special is pretty good defense round and some of the newer materials make for very light weapons.

I dont blame you for wanting to carry. I wished they would train and arm the teachers.

Hell I keep and AK-47 in the truck just in case.

AK-47 pistol? We're moving to Texas, was talking to a good friend of mine who's dad is a Texas sheriff and he said they just passed a law that you can carry a pistol in your vehicle without a lisence. So I'll have an ak pistol in my center console.

If you want big firepower in the smallest possible package, the revolver is probably your best bet.

Are you driving a big truck or something. That must be quite a console.

I was reading the probable cause affadavit on the Hovey St. murders the other day, and it said that one of the guys hid his Tec-9 in the sunroof. I assume that means in between the glass and the sliding panel that covers it. I thought it was an interesting place to conceal a weapon.

I would stay away from Keltec. I had a P3AT, it was no fun to shoot and in my opinion unreliable. I have a Kahr PM9 and S&W airlight. Both guns are reliable, fun to shoot, and conceal easily.

Even if its not against Indiana law (which i still think it is), is it worth getting expelled and not receiving credit for your classes?

I'd rather be expelled, and alive. Than enrolled, and dead because some @#$# tard decided to go on a murderous rampage.

I may not win, but not for a lack of shooting back. (rough quote from Clint Smith)

I see Kirkwood's banner, but thought I would add another plug for Students For Concealed Carry On Campus. Concealedcampus.org What people need to understand is that its not illegal its just against school policy. Doesnt anyone else notice that a tax funded public institution is taking away a right granted by the state? Excuse me here, but who the **** are they? REALLY?? :wtf:
Who gives them the authority to do this? If I threw a party in my backyard and said that the state drinking age was lowered to 15, wouldn't the cops laugh at me? So why then does anybody give any credit to this group? Is it their size? So then if my whole neighborhood lowered the drinking age to 15, would we be ok then? The administration has no right, place, or authority to do any of this. Furthermore, you could argue that its not a right that the state grants. Its a God given or Constitution given or whatever, but nevertheless the state has its hand in the pot, it took my money, and ran my bg check, and said im not nuts (clinically). But people seem to think IU can just stick their hands in the middle of the process too. The SCCC website has some good discussions that you guys may want to check out. I am normally nowhere near this fiery on an issue, but I just don't see how its in question. Yesterday some guy cut me off on the highway, did I start shooting at him? No. At the bank, I didnt hold it up. So why is it expected that when I cross 3rd street onto campus I am expected to lose all my sense and start shooting all the professors I disagree with? I better stop bc I am preaching to the choir. Uniod, rock on. Its your welfare, your education, and your decision. Let the assholes meddle but I wont say you are wrong. Having said all this, the SCCC group also advises that if you disregard regulation (in some states law) and carry on campus, don't publicize it unnecessarily. Just a heads up suggestion, do as you please.

The Kel Tec P-11 is a fantastic gun. I have one, it's my 90% carry gun (the other 10% is a XD-40). It's been flawless so far. Yes the trigger is heavy, but you get used to it. 10+1 capacity. I load it with Speer Gold Dots.

The PF-9 is thinner and ligher with 7+1 capacity and has the P-3AT trigger system (lighter trigger pull but no restrike capability). I have not shot this gun.

The P-3AT is very small - too small for my hand, but for a BUG or deep concealment, it's great. I have not shot this gun.

The P-32 is about the same size as the P-3AT, but doesn't kick like the P-3AT. I have not shot this gun.

FWIW, I carried every day at one our fine state supported institutions of higher learning many years ago. At the time I thought I was crazy for thinking a lunatic might some day go walking down the hall taking pot shots at people in classrooms... but I though it a better solution than :runaway::runaway::runaway::runaway::runaway:

    1. You are nuts for getting online and openly stating you are going to carry on campus.

    2. You will be in deep s*** if you get caught law or not... check you student handbook and code of conduct they probably made you sign.

    3. If you are thinking about small guns check out North American Arms, Ruger's new LCP and Kel-Tec see links below

    Define "deep ****"..........

I'd call getting stuck in a gunfight without a gun, deep ****.

Getting caught not breaking any laws doesnt sound very deep to me. Weigh the possible outcomes and choose for yourself. If you are willing to risk expulsion to save your life (i would) then do as you desire.

This is why we have laws, so people cant just do whatever they want. If it isnt illegal (and it isnt) then you cant get in any "deep ****". You might get expelled which at most I would call "shallow ****".

The University can be pissed all they want, but wont have any legal recourse. If you should get in a jam, I know a lawyer that I suspect would be glad to help you get out of "****" be it deep or otherwise.

My experience with the Kel-Tec P11 has not been very satisfactory. Within the first 200rds, I had about 20 failures to feed (all FMJ). After that, I may have fired another 300rds or so without a problem, to include JHPs.

My confidence in it's reliability has increased and I trust it to go bang. However I abominate its long, heavy trigger pull. The only time I will carry it is if I must absolutely wear something that does not allow me to conceal my usual piece and the environment is less than auspicious for open carry.

ETA: The sights suck too. If money is not an issue, look at Kahr.

I don't care for the P3AT, although it's hard to argue with the size. It wracks my hands when I shoot it.

I have two PF9's, one of which I carry in the summer when I need something smaller than my XD. (The other is my wife's)

I've found the PF9 to be completely reliable so far. I haven't had a single failure with either one with several hundred rounds through both. I wish it were made a little sturdier, though. It definitely has a cheap plastic feel to it. With a Hogue Handall jr. grip, though, it's comfortable to shoot.

As a former IUPUI PD officer I have a little knowledge on how it works at that IU campus. If a student is caught carrying on campus (with a valid permit) we would escort them to our firearm locker area of the PD and have them lock it up. They take the key with them so they can retrieve their pistol when they are done for the day. We discouraged them from leaving their pistols in their vehicles due to break-ins. There is no law against it and I've never seen anyone get expelled for doing it. Off the record, we never really cared if you carried. However, if you were "caught" then we would have to follow dept guidelines to make sure your pistol is secure. We had many students who would arrive on campus and lock up their pistol at the PD and retrieve it when they were done.

You, sir, are a sensible individual. I wish more people in your former job at other schools had a similar attitude.

Re: recommending Kahrs over Kel-Tecs ... I've never fired a Kel-Tec, but I have fired a Kahr P9. I couldn't get good hits with it, regardless of how I tried to manipulate the trigger. I could stay on an paper target the size of an IPSC metric target at about ten yards, but barely. I don't blame the gun, but I know that I can't operate one effectively, and the effort it would take practicing with it isn't worth it to me.

I've never fired a Kahr, but I really like the triangle sights on some of the PM9's I looked at. I've never had an easy time with three-dot sights but the triangle sights really draw my eye.

    Anyone use the big-dot sights?
