After an excellent meeting with edwea in Indy, I experienced the joy of riding all the way back to Warsaw in horrible pain from a kidney stone. I was riding with a friend and he did a great job talking to me and focusing on his driving, while I wished to die 10,000 times. Wife met us at the ER at Parkview in Warsaw. After four hours of horrible pain, the stone passed to the bladder. Now I have a strainer for catching the stone. This is stone number four in my lifetime.

The CT scan also uncovered that I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm. It was not big enough to admit me, but I have to see a specialist. Getting old sucks.

Sorry to hear about the aneurysm.

And yes, kidney stones do suck. Have experienced it myself and luckily so far been able to pass the ones I have had.

First, remind me never to meet up with @edwea. Sounds like he gives you things much worse than a cold.

But seriously, yes. they do suck. I had one about 10 years ago and it was NOT fun. They come out and you say "Is that ALL the bigger it was? Really?"

And get that AAA checked ASAP. If they rupture, those will kill you before the ambulance even gets there. And there is nothing they can do once they get there.

That reminds me I need an ultrasound soon for mine. Well, the potential of one. Dad was in a similar situation and his was found by accident as well. They treated it successfully but mentioned it was hereditary so I need to get checked as well and am due I think. While you are at the specialist, ask them if all your children need checked, or just the sons. I vaguely recall him saying that its hereditary for men. But as deadly as they are, I'd make sure its not ALL children.

    Good luck!

I feel your pain. I lost track of how many stones I have had, many the result of a parathyroid tumor. Only 1 since that was removed. Have had ultrasound treatments, several stents ( not pleasant ).

I also have 2 Illiac Aneurisms and 1 Aortic Aneurism being monitored. Next CT scan in few weeks.

Eliminating chocolate and colas have helped me eliminate kidney stones.

Well, it worked until I got cocky, and started chocolates and colas again.
After that one... I decided to stay on my diet.

    far from here
I feel your pain, worst pain I have ever had. The last one 2 years ago was by far the worst. Went to the ER, confirmed it was a stone and was to large to pass. I was admitted in the hospital met with the doctor the plan was to put me under go in and break up the stone. I wake up with the stone still in me and a catheter coming out of me. Docter said the stone was too big and he had difficulty getting it. So new plan leave the catheter in for a week (that was fun) go back in and remove the stone. Go under again wake up with a string coming out of (you know where). Doctor said they got the stone, but he wanted to leave this tube in for a week to help healing. I said OK when do I come back in to remove this tube? Doc said you can remove it at home. I said say what? You are kidding right? He said just get in a hot shower and pull it out. Well, the day came, and I felt like I was trying to pull start a lawn mower and it felt like it was 3 feet long. Also, when the tube was in, terriable pain.
I hope I never have to go through that again.

My first stone was about 30 years ago, docs did a lithotripsy to blast it, they didn't tell me about the stent till it was done. A week later he tries to remove it, not going smooth! Has me all sedated and he is fishing around in there trying to grab it, I hear him say 'shxt' and then he says 'fxck' , I panick, I show him that I know more curse words than he does, and very loud about it too. He tells the anathesiaoligist 'knock him out, knock him out' . After I wake up, a very shy nurse tells me we are done, you can get dressed and go home. When I get to the waiting room, wife is pissed, tells me everybody in the building heard my language, and she is embarrassed. I ain't happy, she ain't happy, doc ain't happy, and I ain't going to do that again. I have had a few stones since, and I just convince the family doc to write me a script for Vicidon. Just remember, when it comes to stones ' VICIDON IS YOUR FRIEND'.

After my last one was biopsied, the results showed it was mainly calcium.
That's when I stopped drinking milk. I used to have a couple glasses per day. That was 40 years ago and, knock on wood, haven't had another one since.

**** phone picture hard to see the detail, last one I captured after it passed, it made a "clink" sound when it hit the porcelain.
It's about 1/4" long, had these oval spear head features sticking out at weird angles, that's a Kershaw Leek for scale. Party.
