I didn't know if I should congratulate him or move out of the way before TSA tackled all of us. I had to board my plane right after that so I didn't get to see what happened if anything.

My problem with it is, if he can get that through security what can someone wanting to do harm get through?

The Christmas day bomber went through security.

I travel quite a bit and I've accidentally gotten my pocket knife through security several times. If I have it in my carry on with my computer and miscellaneous other junk, it always goes right through.

So I'm sitting at Chicago O'hare today gate C27 waiting on my next plane when the guy across from me gets a scared look on his face and tells his wife that guy has a knife! I look at the guy sitting next to me and sure enough he has a three inch folding knife and it's not on his hip. He is using it to cut up his breakfast fruit! Now we are are off in a corner of the gate which is not very visible to the rest of the people but he is openly flaunting his knife as he slowing eats his breakfast.

    Any thoughts on this?

Just goes to show TSA is there to give the illusion of safety!

Lucky man. My son and I had our knives stolen from our checked baggage by TSA agents. No one else had access to the bags. This was the third time I have been robbed by TSA. TSAs are thieves. I can prove it.

    Nothing confiscated, but annoying anyway.
Last Christmas, my wife and I (and puppy) were flying out of Lubbock, TX back to Indy. The plane wasn't at the gate, so we knew we were gonna miss our connection at DFW. I had to leave the gate area, go back to ticketing; asked to change our flight to the morning (I'd rather spend the night with Family then at the DFW airport hotel).
Coming back through security to get my wife, puppy and luggage, TSA refused my DOD ID (contractor). I've gone through security more than 100 times with this ID (including just an hour before). The TSA lady had the gall to tell me my ID had to be gov't issued! This is right after the girl in front of me was allowed through with a San Fran Community College ID. I was then selected for extra pat downs and such.

The good thing, is that I wrote a nasty email to TSA telling them that we're on the same side. They wrote back and agreed it was a problem, and would provide additional training to those agents.

A few of my favorites that can be carried on:
Tools (seven inches or less in length)
Screwdrivers (seven inches or less in length)
Wrenches and Pliers (seven inches or less in length)

A few WTF ones that can't:
Snow globes and like decorations regardless of size or amount of liquid inside, even with documentation.
Gel shoe inserts - Gel shoe inserts are not permitted, but shoes constructed with gel heels are allowed and must be removed and screened
    Gel-type candles

Last year, I got caught "smuggling" through my Gillete gel deoderant that only had about 3 days worth left in it. TSA said the container could hold more liquid than the designated maximum amount, therefore they would not allow me to carry it on board. I had them call over a supervisor but he wouldn't let me carry it on either. Having the abilit to make reasonable decisions is apparently not a part of their job description.

I don't believe there is any regulations on volume sold in packaging as a percent of total volume. Case in point, POTATO CHIPS which they even note as sold by weight, not by volume; some settling may occur. So, many bags of chips are half full/empty; they even BLOW IN AIR to the bags. I know this, since I was responsible for QC at Frito-Lay.

So, manufacturers should make a five gallon by volume container (soda, eg) but only put 2 ounces in it, and label it as 2 ounces. No reason a full-sized LOOKING bottle of shampoo can't be sold with only 2 ounces in it.

I think if I had a clothing manufacturer or retailing biz, I'd mandate all clothes must have at least 10% of its woven content be metallic-based. That is, weave in metal.
    1. Bug TSA into some other sort of action
    2. Perhaps be enough to have a faraday cage's protection against gubmint's 'beams' (aka tinfoil hat protection)
    3. short out the not-as-LESS-lethal-as-COPS-would-like-you-to-swallow TAZERs.

All that will do is make your clothes get really warm...really fast.

I got patted down on a flight to Hawaii a couple years ago when my film bag tested positive for explosives. :dunno: Pretty crappy job if you ask me.

I wanted to show the guy how to do it. If I patted him down...he'd want dinner and a movie after. :):

I went to argentina to dove hunt with my dad a few years ago (post 9/11) he made it all the way there with two 20 GA shotgun shells in the pocket of his jacket which he had carried in his carry on. The best part was he hadnt worn the jacket since his last trip there and the shells were of argentine manufacture so they must've made all the way back to the U.S. as well. Then on the return flight another hunter from another group made it from Cordoba Argentina to Santiago Chile with a rather large sheath knife in his carry on luggage, we were right behind him in line as Chilean security escorted him in to the back after they found it.

I flew from Indy to ATL to Monterrey Mexico with a 6inch retractable blade in my carry on bag. No one caught it all the way there and back. I had no clue it was in there (hadnt used that bag in years) until I got back and was unpacking.

Almost identicle to this, except a little longer.

All that will do is make your clothes get really warm...really fast.

Really warm? Nah... not possible... I quickly googled some specs on tasers and most of them operate around the 10-20 watt range. Thats less energy/heat than a cfl lightbulb, and the quick pulses coupled with only a couple seconds of use wouldn't heat the clothes up much more than turning a small cfl (60 watt equivalent, 13 watt consumption) on for about 3 seconds.

I do doubt the effectiveness of it shorting the taser out though. At that high of voltage you're likely still going to feel it even if the clothes did make a good conductor. But I doubt the clothes could be made into a good conductor with only a 10% blend. There's just too many other "insulator" fibers to keep the the conductive fibers separated.
