Wife and I saw it yesterday. Theater crowded, mostly seniors. I thought it was great. Neat to see the Jap Hinomaru on their carrier decks and the Crysanthemum (?) on the stern. The Dauntless dive bombers looked very realistic.

The battle of Midway was the 1942 Pacific equivalent to the 1944 "D" Day.
It was The demise of the Japan navy.

    8) The camera angles and panning/zooming of the attack gave the impression that Emmerich watched too much of the revived “Battlestar Galactica” TV series from a few years ago. The “every round is a tracer” CGI looked like the battles between the Colonials and the Cylons using laser or particle beam weapons.

Every 4 round in the 50 ammo can is a tracer.
They are the only thing the gunner see flying to target.
You adjust your shot by them.

    Great....
Now when I finally get to watch this, I'm going to subconsciously be looking for cylon raiders.

I watched the trailer, and that was my impression. It seems like everything was made more dramatic (e.g. tracers, planes that are always just yards apart)

If I ever want Michael Bay level of CGI, then I'll watch a Marvel movie.

Saw it Tuesday with my youngest. We discussed the battle beforehand and what to look for. Overall satisfied with the historical accuracy, and the CGI was impressive. They even included the Nautilus, the suspicions about Mark 13 and 14 torpedoes, and cutting survivors out of the Oklahoma. Even little details like the photo of the Nagato on Yamamoto's office wall - it was the fleet flagship at the time as Yamato wasn't completed yet. Worth it to see it on the big screen.
