Look at a Ruger SP101 revolver in 327 Federal. With 3 inch barrel. My wife shoot one. She uses 32 S & W longs. And, it also handles 32 shorts, 32 H&R mags, and 327 federal which shoots like a 357 but lot less recoil. She also shoots a Walther P22 & a Sig P232 380 autoloader. All three make great pieces for her handbag. Don't make the husband mistake and waste your money on a Walther PPK. Nice product but difficult for a lady to load or operate.

If she is happy that is all that matters. The charter will go bang when it needs to. So good choice.

My wife loves the Walther P22. She also uses my Ruger SP101 revolver with the 3 inch barrel. It a 327 Federal but she shoots 32 S & W longs. Light to pack and fits in her purse. Walther also has a P380 that light and easy to use by a female.

Just a bit of feedback from a similar experience with my wife. We decided on a .38 snubbie for her based on ease of concealing, light weight, and easy controls. After shooting it in a training class she realized that she really didn't like it. She shot a 1911 and immediately fell in love. So, we traded off he .38 for a colt defender in 9mm. She loves it, and even bough it is a bit more complicated, she can shoot more accurately with it.

Don't want to talk you out of the .38, but wanted to share that experience.

Just got my wife the sig p290 with laser and night sites! Very nice gun definitely have her check it out. Most important though is to get what fits her hand best!

My wife shoots Walther P22, SIG P232 and Ruger SP101 w/3 inch Bbl 327 Federal. She has a Walther PPK in the safe collecting dust. The spring is so stiff that she can't operate the slide. She shoots 32 S&W longs in the revolver.

38,357, 380 are basically 9 mm handguns. The real difference is the powder load. Look at a Walther P380 or 9 MM or SIG 232 in 380. All three are great handguns and easy for a lady to operate. My wife also shoots a Ruger SP101 Wheel Gun in 327 caliber. She mostly shoots 32 S&W longs. Nice gun but get the version with the 3 inch barrel.

In another post they asked a few questions which are key! Is she going to carry or occasional target shooter and if so, on body or in purse. Is she a "gun person" or a casual user 1-4 times per user?

If she isn't a gun person and isn't committed to training, I 'd say a small frame revolver . 38 special. If she gets a semi-auto and has a malfunction in a time when she really needs it, it is a paper weight!

A night stand gun or for casual target shooting a 4" revolver or she will carry, a small revolver in .38 special.

My wife is 5-6 and weighs 120#. She carries a G19 with OWB holster and can wear tight jeans with untucked shirts. Works very well for her.
