I'm in the process of re configuring my coyote rifle to save some weight. I ordered a Magpul Hunter and it showed up today. I added the QD adapters that I ordered with it and the short rail section for my bipod before making sure the barreled action fit ok. I'm going to have to open up the bottom metal to clear the wide trigger shoe of the Timney but otherwise the fit was good. It's not bolted down in the pics, new action screws will be here tomorrow.

The only issue was that I couldn't use it with my tripod which is a critical component to my coyote hunting. I gave it a look and decided that the stock looked like it might come apart OK so I started removing the screws and before I knew it, it was in pieces.

So I did a little eyeballing and a little trimming

Then a little bit of grinding

Then voila, she's got a rail so I can lock it into the tripod now.

Didn't own it for five hours before taking a significant chunk out of the resale value. That might be a record but it might not be. It's a rare firearm related item that I can leave well enough alone.

I'll get some pics of it in the tripod tomorrow once the barreled action is locked down.

Very Nice! Hope you had the safety glasses on, cause it looks like all kinds of Dremel wheel on the carpet. :):

This one is a .223 and I did get the DBM setup for it. My initial impression is that it is a great option for the price. Very stiff and more versatile than most factory stocks with the interchangeable cheek rest adapters, MLOK and the DBM setup.

Wow! Very nice. The Magpul Hunter has always intrigued me since they first came out with it. Seems like a good option for replacing the cheap factory stock.

Could you please measure from the face of the action to the very front of the forearm?

From that angle, I think my concerns about the grip are allayed.

Scope came in today. I did a ton of research and narrowed it down between the Burris XTR II 4-20x50mm and the Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1. I was a little surprised at how good the reviews were on the Burris and was willing to give it a shot but they're sold out everywhere and not expected in for another month. I've owned three Nightforce NXS scopes and was always pleased with them so I decided to go for the SHV. The rings are a little higher than I wanted so I may try to trade them out but I can live with it if not.

Is the stock designed specifically for the Remington 700? Or do they make it for others too?

    Very nice looking rig! :yesway:

The make them for both long and short action 700s and the 10/22. I wouldn't be surprised to see them offered for the Savage in the future, I know they've had a lot of requests.

I'd be very interested in the steps involved in building a rifle like that. I caught that you ordered a Krieger barrel. So I'm assuming that you started with a Remy 700, changed out the barrel with the Krieger, changed out the stock, and added a suppressor. Is there more to it than that? I have a few nice stock rifles, but have never upgraded barrels on any of them. My game plan would be to buy the parts and make an appointment with AllenM. :D I have Remington 700 Special Purpose in .243 Remington that would be a good candidate for this kind of project.

Unfortunately I have to contract out the serious work, I don't have the tools or the skills involved. AllenM does and he'd be a good choice for the work!

It started as a Rem700 5R Stainless. After the original barrel didn't deliver like I'd hoped I bought a barrel blank and took it to Ray Saltzman. He trued up all of the critical surfaces of the bolt and receiver, cut the barrel to my desired length, threaded both ends, cut the chamber and torqued it onto the receiver. I'd love to be able to do this type of work, maybe someday.
