    I mean...

This way both customers stayed and continued spending money, so the manager got the best possible outcome from her perspective. If I really felt like I couldn't leave, I would join MCg on his plan.

To be clear, this was you taking a child to a birthday party, right? Or are adult birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese a thing?

Oh. I'm laughing hard. It was a party for a nephew I'm quite fond of.

Not that it matters at this point, but I am pretty sure Chucky Cheese does have no gun signs. I took my kids there a few months back and was carrying my EDC when I saw the sign. Went on in and made sure to keep it covered. Had no issues.

Yep. Signs don't carry the weight of law here so a lot of businesses don't bother but will still ask you to leave if the see it.

Personally, I would have walked outside, covered it up and walked right back in. But that's just me.

So you are saying signs at hospitals and Dr office have no power other than them asking you to leave?

Last time I went to a chuck e cheese, it wreaked of pot and two women were fist fighting over a table.

I was there to book my nieces bday party.

Needless to say, it wasn't there.

The manager is in a tough spot on this. IIRC, there was a kid-oriented place called Celebration Station (?) in Merrillville where gunplay started during a birthday party a few years ago. The place closed, and it has since been bulldozed. As a business, they obviously want to avoid that. Imagine being in a meeting with corporate management and suggesting a pro-gun policy. Ain't gonna happen.

How can a business which is open to the public identify "thugs" (a term that is near the top of the dog-whistle list) before they start behaving badly, at which time it's probably too late?
My preferred option would be to carry discreetly, or avoid the venue altogether.

Just a guess, but I doubt that gunplay was started by your everyday concealed/open carrier - and based on that guess, I doubt that the fine people who started that gunplay would pay any attention whatsoever to signs, laws, or anything else that prohibits them from carrying a firearm, including carry on a given premises.

So you are saying signs at hospitals and Dr office have no power other than them asking you to leave?

Hospitals are a bit of a gray area, particularly the VA hospitals and some other hospitals like Eskanzi that have secure wings. It's been debated in different threads here so I won't rehash it.

But in general, if you go a normal doctor's office it's just an issue of private property and policy. Signs don't carry the weight of law in Indiana. If a business asks you to leave, then you are free to leave. If you refuse, you can be cited or arrested for trespassing.

So did you walk to the car, spend a few minutes out of view, then walk back in?
Exactly what I would have done.. Walk to the car, make sure it's well covered and returned, case closed.

Now that the topic is signs, my wife sees a specialist in Lafayette, the builiding is all Dr offices, not a hospital. But.. all the drs. located in the building are part of the IU Health Network. There is a sign prohibiting weapons. Can that sign piggy back off IU Methodist Hosp in Indy which does have a controlled unit with an armed guard? I don't think it does, but the thought has crossed my mind, what do you all think?

As far as ChuckyCheeze their sign in Lafayette was something to the effect of no guns permited, violators will be treated as trespassers and will be prosecuted by the law as such. This isn't the exact wording but the meaning.

Building's in Lafayette? Well then, it doesn't matter what's in Indy.

I haven't been for quite a while (kids are all teens +) but they used to have signs.

I always carried my full-size .45 concealed-ish and went on about my business...never a problem

Did I miss something? What in the Indiana firearms code speaks to “controlled units with armed guards”?

Hospital units for ... is it incarcerated patients? (someone will be along with a proper definition) are a no-go.

Now does that mean just that ward, or the whole building? That has yet to be tested in a court of law.

Basically, if people are there without their consent - jails, courthouses, mental wards, schools :):, don't take a gun there.

And federal buildings - courthouses, post offices, Natl park buildings, too.

Sign of the times, I understand, I have had mine exposed under my Michigan hoodie, and it would be my G-22 if I was in the hood.
YouTube Chuckie Cheese for some scary free for all hood brawls, and ticket grabbing rumbles, you ain't safe at Chucks house.
