Do you really want your only option to be substandard?

If I wanted my only option to be up to snuff I'd be carrying my AR instead of a pistol.

As I said in my original post, risk perception and the cost/benefit ratio is something that ONLY the person involved can realistically make. The only thing someone looking from the outside is doing is spitballing.

You quote that completely out of context, cherry picker. It was in relation to carrying a Llama over a gLock because the Llama is cheaper if the cops confiscate it after a gun fight.

Illustrating the ignorance (or stupidity depending) of some people and their insane rationalization attempts.

However, if you so desire to carry an AR:

Personally I prefer the $20 duffel, but some people like to go "all out". :):

Only if that person is using all the information available to them. Trying to educate the ignorant is another story.

    If someone says:
"I only carry a 5 shot snubbie because I'm too lazy to carry anything else and it's better than nothing" That is perfectly acceptable. While it isn't a great reason, it is one based upon universal fact. It is better than nothing and they are lazy.

    If someone says:
"I only carry a 5 shot snubby because I'm going to run away and gun fights only last 2-3 rounds" That is ignorance and those of us who know better will educate the ignorant.

SafeShootingDad lays it out very well and for some reason the second half of my other post cut off which was basically the same thing.

It looked to me as if that statement was made in relationship to the material above it, not below it, but I'll accept that wasn't your intent.

I've spent my life trying to educate the ignorant! I do agree with this.

We have no fundamental disagreement here!

I have (and I suspect you do as well) an issue with people who carry an entire arsenal but who don't have the basics of situational awareness or the training to use their weapons effectively.

Carry what you want but don't get butt-hurt when people make fun of you for it.

I carry about 90% of the time it's legal. Do some people consider THAT paranoid? Sure, but that is not the majority. If it was we wouldn’t be seeing the large resurgence in gun-rights that we have. I know, I know. “They” really are out to get our guns-rights & will be coming to take all of our guns at any minute (just ask the NRA – Oh & please send them more money). Or is that just paranoia?

If you base your entire existence & every activity on whether you can carry a gun or not just so you can feel safe then you are being paranoid.

I don’t deny that there are reasonable precautions. Then there is paranoia.

From Wikipedia – “Paranoia is a thought process heavily influenced by anxiety or fear”. I’d say that if your whole life revolves around the fear of not being able to always have a gun on you then that is paranoia. If you are so overly concerned about the occurrence of a rare gunfight in which you might need 50 rounds of ammo that you “always” carry more than that, then I’d say that is paranoia. If you always carry a shotgun, an AR, an AK & 10,000 rounds for each of them in your trunk in case of an unforeseen TEOTWAWKI, then you may be paranoid. If you walk around with a small thermonuclear device just in case of an attack by Al-Queda then you are probably being paranoid.

Here’s another couple of examples from this website; I think it's completely over the top & paranoid to carry while swimming...or in the shower. Especially in the shower. (GEEZ! You guys need to move if you need to carry in the shower). Every person I've told about those threads on here laughs & says that it's paranoid. Most of the people I know are 2A supporters.

Paranoia is like the pornography. While I may not be able to define it precisely, most people will know it when they see it. In regard to the 1A, I may not agree with or like what you say but I will defend your right to say it. In regard to the 2A, I may think that what you carry is paranoia but I will defend your right to carry it. I'll still call you out on your paranoia but if you don't mind being known as paranoid then carry what you want.

    Specifically to the OP:

If you are carrying that much ammo based on "many" stories & videos, you have to remember where those video's originate. I honestly can't remember the last armed riot or large gang shootout I've seen in Auburn. Also I'm not from Indy but I don't think that large armed gang shootouts involving innocent bystanders occur there with any real frequency either. Could it happen? Yes. But it's more likely you'll be killed in a car accident & you still drive right? Just keep it in perspective.

As a former boyscout, my motto is be prepared. Some mince the meaning of being prepared with being paranoid, so be it. Just like the old saying "One mans trash is another mans treasure." It's the same for this " One mans preparation is another mans paranoia."

In retrospect carry whatever you feel comfortable with and prepare yourself as you deem nessecary. And who cares what others think, your taking your and your families safety in your hands. When it comes to that, I'd rather have to much then not enough. Carry as you wish, as only you can decide what is overkill and what is not. Life is like playing the lotto, you buy a couple tickets for the what if factor. That doesn't mean your going to win.

My cousin has a thing for tools, he's got tools I've never heard of before and he's never used. But he has them for the what if factor, do I call him paranoid? No, but I do call him when something breaks. Remember the same people who judge you based on what you carry or carrying in general, are the same ones who will look to you in their time of need.

It's amazes me, I had family and some friends dismiss my decision to carry a few years ago. But recently after the so-called honey-bee killer in my neck of the woods. I've had 50% of those people who dismissed my choice, call me for advice on what kind of gun they should buy, how to get their LTCH and to take them to the range so they can be introduced to firearms.

since this thread was bumped, might as well highlight the best post in it.
