Now keep in mind I know nothing about loads or re-loads, so keep it kind of simple.
First off do they make a +P in 45. and would it be worth it considering I shooting a Para WartHog with a 3 inch barrel?:dunno:

    Be gentle with me, please....

I don't think it is necessary but I'm not an expert on ballistics. My opinion is that there are a lot of dead Germans, Japanese, Koreans, and Vietnamese that would suggest that the standard pressure 45 acp is lethal enough. Just my opinion though, not a ballistics expert as I said earlier. :dunno:

no, all the ballistic testing i have seen done with my own eyes proved that there is no definative gain in going w/ +p or +p+ ammo in ANY pistol caliber.

a quality bullet far outways the minimal gain in speed.

I carry Hornady +Ps but when I went to the range I couldn't tell the difference when firing FMJ and the +Ps...... I still carry them because I have them already loaded but once I go through them I highly doubt I will be purchasing anymore +P ammo....... The only reason I have them is because they were given to me when I purchased my G30

I would think you would be much better off going with a line like Gold Dot and looking into one of their loadings made especially for a shorter barrel. Keep in mind that it will have a pretty large cavity, so make sure you verify it functions fine before relying on it.

IMO, I think any gain in speed and/or ft lbs is a good gain. I load my defensive carry with standard hp loads during summer since light clothing is usually worn so over penetration doesn't become an issue. During winter I carry with +p since there is heavy coats and sweaters that may become obstacles which those extra 89 ft lbs may adresss with proper penetration. ( also that's why the Russians developed the 7,62 x 25 tokarev, I think, to penetrate heavy coats, same principle, I read that somewhere correct me if I'm wrong)

45APC is about 1/2 ounce of lead in a fmj .45inches in diameter traveling at a relatively slow speed. It's kind of the question of would you rather be hit by a speeding Jaguar or a freight train going 35mph. You're just as dead anyway.

True, but would a +P give him a gain in velocity in that 3 in barrel over a standard loading intended for that short barrel ? I don't know, but it would be interesting to run them both over a chrony...

I would surely think the load intended for his barrel length would give off much less muzzle flash and would be much more efficient.

Here is a good page on the test done with different barrel lengths using normal loads and +p loads.

    .45 ACP Vel./Bbl Length

As you can see a 3 inch barrel isn't toO far behind from a 4inch barrel. Also it shows that a +p load gives more speed than normal loads even from a 3 inch barrel.

The Winchester Ranger Talon .45 +P (RA45TP) outperforms the regular Ranger Talon .45 (RA45T) but only a little. Both exceed FBI terminal ballistic protocols. Source of information: Paul Nowak, Senior Technical Specialist, Olin-Winchester.

In general, +P ammunition underperforms compared to non +P equivalents. However, there are exceptions, and the Winchester Ranger Talon .45 +P is one of those exceptions. Whatever differences there may be are modest, at best.

If I were you, I'd put more effort into being able to put your rounds on target. Until your rounds hit your intended target, caliber, and +P, or +P+ won't be super obvious to a would-be assailant.

    :+1:If you can't get it done with a standard .45acp, a +P won't get it done either.

Yes. Quite a bit actually. Ive seen everything from bb to 30-06 GSW. A 45 is not a magic ray of death. Ive worked on pleanty of people who have been shot with a .45 and lived
