Yeah, that's a legit install, right there.

Of course that dude's breaker box is small... I'm already doubling up in a thirty load box.

I hear ya! I upgraded to a 40 circuit box and wish I had gone a little larger. Do I need that many circuits in a 2000 sq ft house? No, but I like the added protection besides its easier isolating circuits without knocking out several areas.

Because its easy to forget stuff. Auto switches remove one more step.
Is there such a thing as an auto switch for a portable? Besides switch cost, I believe you have to have a dedicated whole house for an auto to work. The only code compliant options I know of that work with a portable are a manual transfer or a backfeed with lock out.

I am probably going to install some sort of transfer in my place before too long, hence my interest in this thread. I will not be going in the whole house route.

    .
Make an extension cord thats at least rated for 60+ amps and put two male plugs on it.

In theatre we called this an "Actor Plug" because if we didn't lock it up some actor will find it, plug it in and die. Damn actors destroy everything in theatre. When not in the theatre realm we just call it a "Gay Jumper".

    Aaaaannnnnndddddd we just lost power.

    I'm overjoyed.

At least it ain't gonna be cold or anything.

If it doesn't come back pretty quick I'll be needing an electrician and a plumber and a water damage repair contractor and.......

To wire JUST the furnace, and NOT your house, I've done something like this video.
    TURN OFF POWER AND VERIFY.
    Disconnect power to furnace.
Wire the power to a new outlet that you install.
Then wire a pigtail to the furnace where the power used to go.
Be sure to keep hot/neutral/ground correct.

    Normal operation.
The plug for the furnace is plugged into the outlet youmjust installed.

    Emergency.
You unplug the plug from the outlet.
Plug it into an extension cord.
    Plug cord into running generator.

I also have the pigtail into a switch. That way when swapping the plug, the furnace isnt't trying to kick on while making the connection.

    Then try this.
    Or the portable heaters.

I'd be pretty nervous without a furnace but I don't have a fireplace or anything else to keep the place warm.

I'm using an oven/stove in the kitchen.
The garage has a natural gas heater like I showed earlier n the thread, I think on page 2.
My bathroom has the propane heater in it. I'm toasty.

Im in the same boat. And have a heat pump so a generator (at least a reasonably sized one) isnt an option. At least all of my water lines are run down a central interior wall. Nothing is on an outside wall except the frost free outdoor spigot.

It is reigniting (no pun) the passion for a wood stove downstairs.

I wonder how much a setup like this would cost to install. Though I would prefer what one of my other neighbors did and put a box around it and put siding on it to make it match the house. (couldnt find that particular house on google) I know a brick chimney isnt in the budget, thats for sure.

Probably need to call CHCRandy... I'm handy, but the point at which I exit the side of the house my skills in this department are exceeded. (especially boxing and siding)

Tomorrow I'm actually off work. So we'll see.
And I had the furnace apart one time to clean the flame sensor.
Friggin pain in the ass to get to.
    But cleaning it didn't work.

Then that aint it. They do not wear out.If it is clean it is good. If the board got wet that is the issue.
