I shoot USPSA but I have several friends that will guide you along the way in IDPA...I did go to ACC once to watch a IDPA match this year. Met some friendly people there.

I attended several matches this past Summer. IDPA, Steel Challenge, Multi-gun, Cowboy Action.
I need to do this also. When you guys practice dry fire what are the goals? And how do you specifically do it? Snap caps? Hammer drop with each shot? What about for .22? Can you stick a empty case in for dry firing? As you can tell by the questions, I am a noob.
Here's some reading on how to dryfire.....

1) Have Fun
2) Get use to the speed of Open or get back to Production
3) Shoot more than 8 USPSA matches
4) Finish my classification in Production
5) Depending on my work life, move to the next classification to where I belong (wherever that might be)
6) Hit more than 1 Major
7) Stock up on ammo like Chaney
8) Enjoy the small things, with decently okay, mildly old, sometimes overweight, gun buddies

Get rid of the mental errors!!!
Ill get more serious on goals as the new year approaches, but off the top of my head:
-Shoot competitively with my newly minted A-card in Limited (I don't want to be a "paper" anything)
-Shoot more local & Major 3-gun matches.
-Finish strong at major 3-gun matches (first page is the goal)
-Dryfire more with all 3 guns (pistol, shotgun, rifle). I had a fairly decent year last year, and want to see what dedicated practice can get me. Ideally, a few times a week with USPSA pistol, 1-2 days a week with shotgun.
-Get classified in Open to give me a classification in all 6 divisions
Stop getting beat by somebody 20 years older than you...
Try my first match. Either IDPA CDP or multi-gun. Or both!
Maybe start with a steel challenge?
