I did it because Fenway asked me to.....

Here is a list of things Fenway has not asked me to do...

    1) Can you tone it down a bit?
    2) Can you quit being such a smart a$$ to Libs, Libertarians, the city of Indianapolis, the gay marriage pushers, and any place north of Seymore...
    3) Can you quit making fun of Glocks, tight black t shirts and shaved heads?
    4) Can you quit posting the Gary Johnson crowd surfing video to prove the point that Libertarians can't run a serious candidate either?
    5) Will you quit poking fun about how INGO's Atheists are the most Evangelical people concerning their Faith than any Religious group you have ever met? (That's why I love leveleleven, You can post a pic of a sunset and say "A pretty nice pic of the sun going down over the Mountains" and he will respond "There is no God" underneath your post...LOL...)
    6) Will you quit reminding people that dead babies are people too and deserve a shot at liberty and life like the rest of us losers got to have?

    Etc...Etc...Etc....

The point being....He has never asked for ANYTHING from me....So when he did ask I changed my Avatar....Not to be popular, cool, to get a ticket waived, or whatever....It's because he asked....

Sometimes cops get killed. I appreciate what they do but they know the job is dangerous. Move on. Tired of watching all the news reports about it.

I am down here in "Kentuckiana"...If it wasn't for INGO I wouldn't know anything about this officer losing his life...Now I can tell you all about the officers in Louisville, Lexington, or Bardstown who made the ultimate sacrifice but I hear nothing about my fellow Hoosiers...So I think I am not going to "move on" and I appreciate the links to the news reports that you Canadians have posted for us folks on the river to see....

If someone ever busts in this shop and kills me for this stash of old greasy guns I would like to think some INGO'ers might post a few rememberances of me.....Maybe a pic of me getting that lap dance from one of Skulldaddy45's midget (sorry "little person") strippers or perhaps that cameo I did in one of churchmouse's 1970's era Phillipino Pornos he starred in....(If you are paying attention Churchmouse I think I really looked best in "Gringos, Guns, and Gams" but use your own judgement...)

Ooooooor, you could move on and not post in the thread for a topic that you don't have an interest in. I can't control the news reports, but I can recommend that you stop watching the news for a bit if it bothers you that much.

I'll say the same thing I said in a different thread to a different person in regards to a different subject.

Don't like it? Don't open the thread. Some of us wish to discuss certain events and with this being so recent, it made our list of hot topics to talk about.

The topic of this thread is applying various labels to the folks who did or did not change their avatar.

His comment was rather relevant to the subject at hand.

Was it in a PM or what? I don't think I got the request & I really had no idea anybody was doing this until I saw this thread.

It is rather interesting to read a thread that seems to have been begun (and continued) solely for the purpose of passing judgment on the way that a person pays his respects or does not pay his respects to a dead guy that may and/or may not have touched his or her life.

It has an air of "My hypocrisy is more pure than your hypocrisy."

Maybe it was intended to be satire. If so, it seems to be in rather poor taste. If not, it still seems to be in poor taste.

I've been here going on six years. I'm on my second avatar. What can I say, frequent change is bad.

There is something OkieGirl and I have learned on this journey.. knowledge is relative. Relative to how you live your life - and what you pay attention to. If you spend time on the internet. If you have a Facebook account or not. If you're a follower of IMPD or not.

This thread is 2 weeks old and until tonight neither OkieGirl or I have seen it. And thankfully she's still not seen it. If she does find it, she'll be disenheartend and disappointed. Fenway made a very simple request: show some support. One of the things we've learned on this journey is there will always be the haters.

We've got more than they do. They can bring it, we got it covered.

    Out.

It suggests a moment of thought, remembrance and a thank you. It's a pretty simple concept.

You can do it or not. To each his own. Nobody is going to give you any grief for not doing it. That's called class.

Now, on the other hand............ giving someone grief for doing it is a total DICK move.

    In my honest opinion.

^^This^^ Isn't personal choice what makes this country great? I hear commercial after commercial about buy this or lease that and I don't rush out to snatch that up. It doesn't compel me. I have a unique Avatar that speaks volumes about who I am (whether anyone else understands it or not or gave it more than a chance glance). I don't have the computer savvy to pull it down and put another up so I haven't changed mine and I've chosen to show support in other ways (perhaps you've heard about my Facebook page?) - truly my decision and based on my shortcomings and I'm at peace with it.

Now onto the reason the original suggestion was put out there: Given the subject matter of this site, we have a lot of LEO's on this forum. Many of whom we consider friends. So, showing support by a simple change of an Avatar is just a small gesture of sympathy during their time of loss and is a symbol of support for the future. There are those of us who cringe when we hear that an officer has been shot...and we stay up late that night trolling INGO hoping, praying it wasn't one of those we know. The truth of the matter is that whether you knew the officer in any way or not at all it does impact our city, it impacts our safety, it impacts those who work to keep peace in the inner city so that it doesn't branch out into suburbia and beyond. Their burn out rate is on the rise and who can blame them? Their Mayor just had his big proposal to fight crime and it included a $50,000,000 plan to educate 4yr olds. What a slap in the face. To say our politicians aren't "getting it" would be the understatement of a lifetime. Of course they get tired, frustrated, broken hearted, annoyed, lessened, numb... Yes, they know it's dangerous but it's also their calling. If their wives/husbands or children believed today was the last day they would walk out that door do you really think they would be allowed to go to work? If they didn't hold the line then who will? Do you think it's easy to recruit additional officers when the temperature of the city is "f#@* you"?

When people get tired of hearing excuses and get interested in purposefully being involved in their local government and supporting the things they believe to be important then maybe we would have "peace in the streets". And that 10 Point Coalition...what a flippin' joke! They are paid $25 an hour to walk around in low risk neighborhoods, wear a reflective vest, and stand behind their guy when he has his face in front of a camera. We can find tax payer dollars for that ineffective effort but we can't seem to find any funding for the peace keepers. So yes, I placed a blue light on my porch because I figured it was the LEAST I could do and I asked my friends/family and my INGO family to do the same. - rant over -

Take part in it or not, that's entirely your choice.
