Neither appears to be the subject of the painting.
That was per the Obama's input, it is called humility. If you go through the other 43 you will notice the other presidents thought it was all about them.

You really think they didn’t have input or veto power?
...those are just bad. The one that's allegedly of Michelle doesn't even look like her. If you saw it without context, there's no way you'd know it was supposed to be of her. The Obama one is close enough to recognize it's supposed to him, at least.

And the portraits aren’t much better. I suppose they like their paintings, they can keep their paintings. Those are ugly.
I wouldn't put the blame on the Obama's, at least without more. The paintings were commissioned by the National Gallery who also chose the artists, I have no idea how much input the Obama's had.
Obama said that she and President Barack Obama interviewed several artists for their portraits, and that she bonded with Sherald because of all the time they spent together.
I'm not choosing an artist based on being friends. If the best artist is a midget Nazi dog kicker, he getting the job... as long as... I have a step-stool, he knows I'm a Baptist, and it's not my dog he's kicking.
Once again, printcraft makes me sad the rep system is setup how it is
