three day wait

One or fewer with my name, I use my SSN on paperwork... but I still got delayed once.

There are 10 with my name, 3 of which are in my immediate family. Then there is 1 from my home state who is a convicted felon with almost the same SS# that made my life miserable trying to get my permit renewed last time. I get delayed everytime.

I'm pretty sure that site only uses statistics to guess at how many people have the same names. It really doesn't know the exact count (hence the 'or fewer' count).

Ex:

According to the site there are 307,272,773 people in the US. There are 909,572 with my first name & 10,775 with my last name (I assume it 'knows' those numbers somehow).

By doing the math:

((909,572/307,272,773 * 10,775/307,272,773) * 307,272,773) = 31.85

The site says 32 - close enough. I did this with a few other people in my family & the numbers have been close (within rounding error) every time.

It doesn't take into account your middle name, either. Statistically that would probably take me down to ~1.

It would be interesting to know how close they are to the real numbers, though.

And, no, I've never been delayed either.

Damn me for opening my mouth !! Went into a local shop today to pick up a rifle , and got put on a delay !! Something just dosn't seem right though....the dealer used the internet to submit the ATF form....Never have had that done before, always been a phone call. Let the waiting begin

I just checked and there is only one lf me in the U.S. I've never been delayed.

Ha! Only 11 people with my first and last name. I have never had to wait.

Only 6 people with my first and last name. My parents were very outside the box thinkers.
