Just filed a claim with the VA. Running around the flight line in the 80's, under rotor heads etc. They will beat me down but working with DAV, fingers crossed.
I filed a VA claim in 2018 for hearing loss, 24 years after I got out. Only spent 6 years directly in aviation. Used DAV to file the claim. Went to the audiologist. Was told I had significant mid-range hearing loss. High frequency loss was about the same after 24 years. Received a "0" rating for hearing loss and a 10% rating for tinnitus. Last month went to the VA for hearing aids. Went through another audiology screening and hearing aids will be here on the 23rd. May be I won't have to tell people so ofthen that I missed that comment.

I was in middle school when I realized the ringing wasnt supposed to be there. Had ear problems all through childhood 3 sets of tubes and parents were told I'd have hearing aids. Dont have the hearing aids but do have ringing. It's gotten progressively worse over the years with guns ,the factory and sirens. Guy I worked with says some antidepressants made his go away. Fan at night does just fine for me.

I just tried the tone generator with my iPhone, and amazingly, it can generate somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 Hz to about 15 kHz. I’m going to have to work with a good set of headphones to figure out the frequency of my vicious tinnitus, but I think it’s somewhere around 10.5 kHz. I can hear somewhere up close to 15 kHz, but it’s not comfortable. I feel like I’m in some science fiction movie where they’re torturing people and trying to make them go insane when I listen to continuous tones that high.

Main Desk Operator called me up to ask if I was going to F'n fix that damn noise coming from the PA system.
I was "You mean YOU can hear that?"
I had to keep calling to see if the noise was there or not, because it was the same tone as the ringing in the ears.

We had a mental health counselor talk to the department and one of the things they mentioned was getting screened for mental illness if you have severe tinnitus due to self harm ideation. I think it was the texas roadhouse CEO that died by suicide and that post covid tinnitus contributed heavily to it.

Had in one ear about 30 years, ginko biloba seems to help some, if it gets loud, leaning head bad ear, finger in ear will 'back it down ' a little

My 28 yr old son has tinnitus and has been diagnosed with hearing loss. No occupational or military exposure to noise, probably due to loud music during his frat boy days and loud ear bud use during teen years. He is currently in the process of being evaluated by a ENT specialist but he knows there is no cure.

I have 10,000 piccolos playing the same note in my ears 24/7/365. My superpower is being able to ignore it, at least until someone brings it up... Thanks for that!
