    I don't have a VA I.D. card. :dunno:

Do you get medical treatment at a VA facility? If so, that facility can provide you with VA identification. If you have ever been treated at a VA, call me and I should be able to get you set up.

I appreciate the info., but I'm one of the VERY lucky ones! I have NOT required medical treatment (from VA) since I was discharged some 30 years ago!

I prefer to take care of myself as much as possible, and let those who really need it, receive the care!

I'll bet money, that if you call Applebees, they'll accept your DD-214. I really can't imagine them refusing that.

I'll think I'll do just that!
I've enjoyed a few free meals at my local Golden Corral the past couple of years.
Applebees would be a nice addition!

That would be an interesting seminar.. only if Dan Burton really cared about Veterans or our "issues".

He doesn't though.. I know this first hand.

Anyone know the income limit a 100% service connected disabled veteran can make before his or her disability is offset? :dunno:

I may be way off base here, but I don't think compensation payments can be offset, or reduced by another income source. I'll find out tomorrow. If you'd like to give me a call at your convenience, I'll get the answer for you.

    Mr. Hoppes...... here's the answer......

If you are 100 % service-connected and are still employable, there is no income ceiling. If you are 100% service-connected BECAUSE you are unemployable, then any earned income MAY affect your compensation amount. My not having any personally identifiable info on you, I couldn't get any more specific. I'd suggest you contact the Regional Offices Call Center at 1-800-827-1000 press O for operator at the voice prompt, and you'll be transferred to a benefits rep. Give them some info, and they can give you a concrete answer. If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Thank you for your service... :patriot:

I may be service connected--still sick from returning from the Sandbox in fall 2008. Should I start at DAV? My VA doc wasn't really able to tell me where to start a claim.

You can start with DAV, or your local County Veteran's Service officer. He/she will be in the county office building. The Veteran's Service Officer does NOT work for the VA.

    A matter of "unearned honor"

The Howard County War Veterans (Please correct me and I'll correct the name) has a Fire-base Reunion annually. I have read some of my writing, in Honor's Sake, at these meets. One thing that bothers me GREATLY is the appearance of "wanna-be" "heroes" at this function, as they buy and wear false medals and awards. This deliberate act cheapens the sacrifice of all who REALLY did earn these awards. It make my blood seethe to see "men" not even born when I saw my action wearing the ribbons of the sacrifice of those of us who actually bled in the sands of Asian theaters. It makes me want to reach for my blade and cut short this disgrace. I propose the following be submitted for posting at the entrances to the vendor-tents to prevent this happening in the future:

    TO SELLERS OF, ALL PROSPECTIVE
    PURCHASERS OF THE FOLLOWING AWARDS:

NONE OF THE FOLLOWING MEDALS FROM
    ANY RESPECTIVE SERVICE BRANCHES
ARE TO BE SOLD OR OFFERED TO ANY
    PERSON ATTENDING THIS REUNION
    WITHOUT SUBSTANTIATING PROOF BY
VALID AND TRUE DD-214 OR LETTERS
OF AWARD, AS APPROVED BY PROMOTERS
OF THIS EVENT, OR THEIR ADJUTANTS.

    Medal of Honor
    Purple Heart
Bronze- or Silver-star, Valor and Honor
    nor "Gallantry in Action"medal.
    Citations, both individual and Unit,
    Service Cross medals, from any
    military service.
    Distinguished Service medals:
    Defense Distinguished Service Medal,
Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard
    Homeland Security Distinguished Service
    Medal.
    Defense Superior Service Medal
    Legion of Merit
    Distinguished Flying Cross
    Medals for Heroism:
    Soldier's, Navy & Marine Corps,
    Airman's, Coast Guard Medals, Gold
    Lifesaving, Bronze Star, Purple Heart.
    Defense Meritorious Service, Air Medal,
    Silver Lifesaving, & Aerial Achievement
    Medal.
    Commendation medals:
Joint Service, Army, Navy & Marine
Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard
    Commendation Medals.

THESE ARE NOT TO BE SOLD
    OR PROVIDED FOR PURCHASE
    ON THESE GROUNDS WITHOUT PROOF.

I will submit this to the council of the
HCV at their next meeting. Any suggestions? Pat.

    This Message Isn't Helpful -- It's Just A Rant

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Department of Veterans Affairs was fined $227,500 after incorrect radiation doses were given to 97 veterans with prostate cancer at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, a federal agency announced Wednesday.

Sooooo... the government fined a goverment agency for mal-practice. Your tax dollars moved from one government entity to another. We might say, "But, but, but the guilty group has fewer dollars to play with!" And who, exactly, was hurt by having fewer dollars to spend on veterans?
