I'm getting all the info into a spreadsheet for the insurance company. As I'm putting the S/N in, I realize that the Colt MKIV 1911 Officers model (that was supposedly never shot before my wife and I put a mag through it this summer, which I can believe) S/N is the date my wife and I met. I about fell out of my chair.

So my father-in-law buys this brand new Colt 1911 sometime in the late 80's-early 90's and puts it away. He shows it to me several years ago and tells me he doesn't recall ever shooting it. Fast forward to this summer. He brings it out while we were plinking with a bunch of different guns and hands it to me. I hand it to my wife and she puts 3 or 4 rounds through it. She gives it to me and I run it dry. He puts it away while asking me if I knew how to take it down and clean it. I said sure but it will have to be another day. He offered to let me take it home to clean it and I declined.

Anyway, I'm thinking about having it refinished or cleaned up or something so it would look nice in some sort of case. I wouldn't care if it even had moving parts. I've got some PM's out for some feelers on having this done.

This entire thing is just sad but that poor innocent Colt.
