The wife and I stopped in for some pizza at Union Jack Pub in Speedway last night and we saw a whole bunch of gun nuts open carrying. Some of them were even in the bar area. :nailbite: Oh the horror.

Larger man just walked out of doc office at IU Health facility with a pocket pistol clipped to his pocket. Very surprised no one said anything. It was quite easy to spot.

My Doc is part of IU Health and I carry every-time I go in. Hell the Doc is a shooter too, we usually talk guns before he even asks whats wrong with me.
In Oct. the wife and I went in for wellness physicals for the insurance co., he must have seen her rolling her eyes cause he apologized about the gun talk to her and started the physicals.

Why does it seem that everyone is scared to Open Carry. I live in Michigan City and I OC all the time only had one LEO experience that went well had several people approach me as to why I carry and my answer was because I believe in my 2nd amendment and its my God given rights. And I had many people praise me and shake my hand saying that they felt safe around me.

My personal opinion is that the negative opinion among gun owners to open carry has a strong shame element among many. Not all, of course, but some are stuck in the emotional trap that they're doing something "wrong" by carrying a gun, and thus it needs to be hidden. Seeing or hearing about someone who isn't hiding their gun calls those feelings to the forefront, which then get garbled by the rationalizations such as "you'll be the first one shot" and "you lose the element of surprise."

    [now await the fireworks!]

Sunday afternoon at Sams club in Clarksville - approximate 30 year old southpaw with apparent wife and 2 year old boy. Gentleman was wearing a gray hunting (Browning?) shirt and dirty / holey blue jeans, carrying what may have been a black 1911 in a generic belt slide holster that was making his pants sag (revealing his boxers). His belt did not seem to be up to the task of properly supporting his firearm. I did not approach, but did observe that he certainly didn't seem to be attracting any attention from anyone there.

I've seen a guy at a Newburgh gas station off 261 OCing a glock. I was on my work break getting a snack and a drink. I OC more during the summer when its hot and I really only notice about 5/10 percent of people around me notice my 1911. I used to frequent Bar Louie every Tuesday for dollar burgers while OCing my 1911. No one really notices nor says anything. I eat my food and enjoy my beers and continue on my American way.

At Rural King in Princeton, IN on a Sunday afternoon. Couldn't tell what it was other than it was silver.
First time I have seen open carry locally. I was carrying concealed.

WOW, just saw a guy O.C.'ing inside the Clermont Post Office. I pulled him aside and said "Dude, it's good to see somebody carrying, but you may not want to O.C. in the Post Office."

His response was; "I know my rights! If it's not posted on the door, they can't stop me."

Me: "I think it's a Federal Law, and there doesn't have to be a sign"

Him: "This is a small town, it's different here".

Me: "OK, I hope your right, good luck with that."

It's kind of in between. IANAL, but the pertinent Federal code states that if it's not posted, a person can't be convicted for carrying on the property. That doesn't mean they can't arrest your and/or make your live a living hell in other ways.

Open carry in a post office is, in my opinion, not a great choice.
