I get constantly bombarded with this question from my wife.... I have no good answer. I just like assembling them, so each has a special meaning around a certain time in my life.... though I am running out of room on my AR shelf in my safe....

I have just the opposite problem, my wife seems to have confiscated mine for herself and she really wants purple furniture on it. So I actually need 2 more one for me and my daughter=4 (3+1 in 308) Oh the pain of not having the funds right now.

Because one is none...if you have two, when one goes down then you can make the other one function with parts from the other.
I have a bunch...one for at least family member at least.

I have 8 ARs for the same reason that I wouldn't go golfing with only 1 club. Barrel lengths include...

    7.5"
    10.5"
    11.5"
    12.5"
    16"
    18"

    Calibers include

    5.56
    .308

    To echo previous sentiments:

    A) Two is one and one is none.

    B) Different setups. I have one high-end for precision and then a budget build for a trunk gun/funness.

I have to say, I absolutely did not expect to do the budget build. I really thought that getting the high-end AR would be "enough." Alas, now I'm also thinking about what the next one will be. :)

Same reason I own both phillips and regular screwdrivers. My AR's are setup for different purposes... one has iron sights, the other is scoped.

As much as they are so much more than tools, they are ultimately tools, each with a specific task.

one in 308 and one in 5.56 , cant use the same lower for those, and who really wants to switch lowers anyway, a complete gun is just better.
maybe one has a scope the other doesn't , different stocks , just way too many answers here.
but the best one is, I don't NEED two , I simply want two.

Several have said it. Im looking for a 24" freefloat scoped for target/varmint, and keep my carbine length A2 for a defensive rifle. So two or more is not so silly.

why do you need more than one knife/hammer/screwdriver/car/motorcycle? tools are normally made to do one job really well and other jobs not so well. So If you want the best tool for the job, you need more than one tool!

Ok, all the reasons listed above are what was going thru my head as well.

I've been trying to talk myself OUT of selling my AR....

Tacticallyfat is the first guy that gave the ever quoted answer. One is none and two is one... I see no reason not to have at least two especially if it's for serious use. Then when you start looking at ways guys have them set up for different purposes like hunting and things they can really start adding up!
