My 1911 experience started with a Springfield A1 type in .45. Enjoyed it but got a chance to trade it for a Stainless Blackhawk in a more common caliber for me. I have since picked up an RIA GI in 9mm and a Springfield 911 in 9mm. One gets carried and the other is in the get home bag along with a IWB holster and extra mags. Hard to argue with the capability/durability of the design and the 9mm works for me.
