Actually a pumpkin would be a fruit. While classified as a vegetable culinarily speaking, a fruit is anything you eat that originates from the flower of the plant. So while we would call a tomato a vegetable, technically it is the fruit of the plant. If you eat the leaves, stem, root, or flower, its a veggie. The part comes from the flower is the fruit even if the plant is classified as a veggie. Clear as mud?
