which definition do you disagree with?
That doesn't really matter. He's asking the questions here.

You have to understand how this works. You write a really long, well thought out post, asking several questions, and one sentence, or one word, will be focused on. Five paragraphs will be disregarded, one sentence will be highlighted, and you get a single snarky sentence reply. He picks the narrative, we just follow along. When he is beat, he will pick a new word or single point to focus his feigned outrage against. The last four pages of this thread are because I associated the Klan with the party that created, and ENDOSED it.

Notice how I capitalized endorsed? He will spend the next five hours researching this, while I sleep. He will feel superior, me, I'll just feel rested. It's a win for both of us.

I have some very deep knowledge of what you speak and who they were. Many were family. All were lever pulling Dems. and deeply involved in the local politics.
I have no idea what the political make up is now but when I was younger I knew exactly who they were. It took years to really figure out what I was seeing but yeah, it sucked.

Honestly, for one reason or another, I simply don't have the time to write out long posts as regularly, as I used too.... but since you point GI's post specifically, I will return to in, in the next few days and address it more thoroughly.

What do you think? Do you think that they would still be Democrats today, honestly? I'm from the South as you well know. White people my parents age grew up in Democratic households. Today, those kids, now middle age adults, are Republicans. Do you think it's reasonable to believe that the values their parents passed on to them (if one believes the Democratic Party has stayed consistent in its beliefs) we're completely (or mostly) abandoned by their children? Or do you think the values they held at the time, they no longer see the Democratic Party as representing?

The modern Democratic Party on a national level is home to societies whack jobs.
Radicals, hollyweird, violent behavior. It attracts them because it’s a judgement free zone for them.

Mao, Pol Pot and Stalin would disagree.

I thought we were confining ourselves to domestic instances. If you want to go international, then we have to determine the litmus test of what is "conservative" and "liberal" on the extreme ends of the spectrum.... because you can't exactly apply the American understanding of the concepts, and really make sense. For example, traditional "conservative" Japanese culture (which I assume many have an inkling of), would hardly be seen in the same light as the American concept.

Did you ever stop and think that hat maybe they became Republicans because they DO NOT SHARE "those same values" as their parents? When I was growing up, most of the bigots and racists that I came into contact with WERE Democrats, and that is one of MANY reasons that I became a Republican.

Well let's lock down the views of these Democrat ancestors. And for the record, I would agree that many, not all, were bigots.
    Were they?
    -pro-gun
    -religious
    -distrustful of the federal government
    -hard working
    -believers in property rights
    -states rights advocates
    -committed to family
    -pro-immigration
    -pro-life

Which concepts did they agree or disagree with?

I am really not sure. I also worked with one of the higher ups in the association we are discussing and it was unclear as to his voting. I did not know he was a red sheeter for a while until he mentioned the rally they were organizing downtown (late 80's if memory serves) and wanted me to attend. I was set back by that as my leanings were not racially motivated but just had a deep love of country. He said that is why he wanted me and those who thought as I did to attend. To save the country. :n00b:

About 10 of us rode our bikes downtown and posted up to watch. Just outside the idiocy. It was a circus. Nothing was accomplished by either side and yes, both sids were well represented.

I really have no idea who they are today. I just know who they were and what started and maintained the group I was aware of.

I am the only family member that crossed party lines to my knowledge. My siblings remained stout Dems. All the rest of the family as well.

You think they are nuts now, wait until Ginsburg keels over. To use the words of a former President, she looks pretty "shovel-ready." :):
