I think if they ask you to see your gun infront of all those people that could turn out bad. Especially at a bonfire where people are usually boozing. I dont like to show my gun unless its people I know well and I always remove the clip and the chambered round before handing it over.

I've got friends who think it's cool, they know nothing about firearms and are always curious to see what I've picked up. They don't handle them, just look and ask questions. If a stranger asked though, standard response is "nope."

After experiencing a few similar circumstance as a few above, I typically decline unless it is someone that I trust and/or shoot with. Some people are way to careless when handling a firearm-loaded or unloaded. Just simpler, to me, to keep my protection on me =)

If it's a friend I will unload and let them fondle.......if there is people I do not know there or a large gathering, the pistol stays on the hip. Better to be safe than sorry.

Let me tweak the thread a bit, if I may, backup up a step, and ask how do folks respond (or how would you respond) to this question?

    I say "Yep".

Seriously people we are talking normal conversation here. Not everything has to be all edgy and a big deal.

    "Of course."

I typically OC, so have rarely been asked. The only times I can remember: at my sister's wedding (by an uncle), at my grandmother's (she bumped it hugging me), and at a meeting with friends (all rare CC occasions).

Response to the "Can I see it" is "No, thanks."

I have only unholstered, cleared, and handed it to a very few people. Never in "public", and never to someone I don't trust implicitly.

If someone asked, "Do you really have a gun on you?"

    I would say, "No."

Of course, they'd probably come back with, "...but, but I can see it." :n00b:

    Then I'd say, "Yes."

They'd wonder if I was changing my original answer or if this "yes" was merely in reference to their last statement of fact. :dunno:

Then I'd say "No" again and remove all doubt.

I always CC for a reason,so people don't know I have it. But someone I know,in my home or there I might. In public there is know way I would pull it out ,unless I am going to use it.

Im with most everyone else, if its family or close friend I dont mind them knowing I have my EDC on me but in front of anyone I dont know I will deny it. As for handling it, again if its family or close friend after I drop the mag and clear the chamber and in a controlled setting no problem. I think you handled the situation very well.

I most always CC. If someone sees the outline through my shirt and asks, I tell them I am. Have never really had anyone go further than that. I don't mind showing a friend, (cleared & open chamber) but in general public with someone I don't know--don't count on it.

Had someone glaring at it in WalMart the other day. I winked and smiled real big. I thought everyone in WalMart carried??? WTH???

Gun does not come out of the holster in public. There's one occasion I can think of when a relative asked at their house if I "had it on me right now? Can I see?" and I obliged with a simple lift of the shirt. Stayed in the holster.

One of my friends who knows I carry all the time has brought the point up before at gatherings before with lots of strangers. He will say "I bet he's got a gun on him right now." In such a scenario, I've always either ignored the comment or, if pressed for a reaction, shrugged and said "Ya never know." I'm not a very confrontational guy and would rather not push the topic in someone else's house filled with strangers.

Pretty irresponsible to pull your gun just to show some gump. You can inform them your carrying if your comfortable!
