    1. a responsible citizen places his own safety and that of his family before others' sensibilities
    2. his kids have a valid complaint against their father for a poor upbringing.
    3. definitely...... not, tempting as it may be. haha

Ask mr. sheep if his kids get upset if a cop in uniform was eating his chicken dinner instead.

It's hard to have a good response on tap because you are minding
your own business and not interjecting yourself into someone elses business.

The in your face approach seemed to of worked for the Gays in the 80's.

We have them beat simply by numbers. gays...8%...Gun owners....30% of population plus we multiply better.:D

My kids wonder why everybody does not have a gun with them.

They also wonder why I will not go into the bank only the drive thru, Wonder why most of my vacation is spent in the woods when it is cold. Why people carry knives that can't cut a box open, Why i always back unto a parking spot. Why people pay others to mow the yard and shovel the snow. Why some kids don't know how to wash dishes ect.

many good opinions posted. i lean towards CC. i'd leave my .40 cal auto in the car, but my sweetie pie always has her S&W model 686 in her purse. that way the little kids wont be scared. it's not their fault their parents are low I.Q.'d. a paddle holster's a good chioce.......

May just be me, but I see many posts that convey an attitude of "in your face" toward those who are not familiar with guns and/or not used to seeing people carrying them. I agree, the father in this incident could have handled it better. This may be the very first experience this family has had with non-LEO open carrying. IMO, those who open carry need to be a little sensitive to the fact that it is what many would consider "unusual" behavior. (Not wrong, just outside the ordinary.) :twocents:

Granted, if we all open carried, people would be more accustomed to seeing guns and such incidents would not likely not occur.

Agreed. I do not OC most of the time and for this same reason. Most families are not used to seeing a gun unless it is on an LEO. Respect of all others is a very important tool in education. :twocents: I carry my 38 in my purse most times.

It helps to remember that there is a good portion of the population that have never held nor fired a weapon, and that most of those rarely ever see a weapon on a regular basis. They may have been told by their parents that guns are dangerous, kill people, etc... So when they do actually see someone OC'ing, they naturally freak out. Scowling, making fun of them, being in their face, etc... does nothing to help educate them, but does the opposite. So please remember, next time someone 'confronts' you about carrying, please be respectful! (BTW, this is not directed towards the OP, you did seem respectful...)

    Lesson FAIL.

    Yes, kids, guns are scary

...but it's perfectly acceptable and safe to go out of your way to chastise and irritate anyone you see with one.

Now watch how daddy does it... :n00b:

Agreed. I will try to OC more. ;)

I appreciate the good interchange of ideas. I and JCA1776 normally CC, Mk2ja normally OCs. My weapon was visible only after I removed my coat to sit down in this case. I prefer CC because it gives me the choice of when I reveal my status, but OC does make it easier to get into action if it ever becomes necessary. I am not eager to frighten others, though.

I think we handled this as well as possible.

Just admit it, as you walked by their table your pistol jumped out of its' holster, grabbed the oldest child by the throat and threatened to kill them all! Remember, guns are EVIL!

For those of us that are sarcastically challenged, think purple while reading the above statement!

Gay couple comes into a restaurant and sits at the table next to your family. No big deal until they start kissing each other in front of your children.

Like the gun issue, it probably wouldn't be a big deal to the children.

Similarly, the kids would probably be the scapegoat reason given by the parent who thinks it's acceptable to go chastise them.

    Just sayin'...

Come on, you really don't think this is a good analogy, do you? And for the record, I'd be the same amount of pissed if it was a straight couple. They aren't walking around the restaurant with their hips in the air flaunting the pistols, are they? There's a big difference between being tactful in a social situation, and flaunting something around so that it's forced on everyone.

I also CC all the time. In the event that my gun is exposed for whatever reason and someone makes a comment like that, I would try to invite them to have an open conversation about it. I would avoid, as I do in all circumstances, referring to someone as an idiot based on general beliefs. You may be insulting this guy's father/mother/wife, etc.

Obviously, this guy was out there. To confront someone who has a gun while supporting his children's assumption that those with guns must be criminals doesn't make much sense. If he is intent on making a comment and quickly walking away, let him go and enjoy whoever you are eating with (just like you did).

    1. Should responsible citizens opt for CC to avoid frightening the children?
    2. Does the father have a valid complaint?
    3. Should we have followed the father into the parking lot and opened a can of "whup a**" on him? (OK, just kidding! It was a joke!)

    What do you think?

    1. No. People should raise their kids to not be pu****s.
    2. No. He should STFU and mind his own business.
    3. Laughing, pointing, and mocking his weakness works better.
