OK here's the story I live in the county not rural county but never the less the county. About 3 weeks ago I went out back and shot off about 14 rounds of .380 into a target backed by a mound of sand. About 30 min later a State trooper is cruising up and down my road about 5 mph. So no stop no issues the end. Today I go out and shoot 21 rounds of 45 acp and proceed to mow my grass. About 30 min into mowing a State trooper is cruising up and down my road about 5 mph with a County officer right behind him. He goes up and down the street a few times before he pulls in my neighbors driveway. He ask her if someone was shooting and I can tell she's covering for me and giving a bit of a run around. So he pulls out disappears for a bit and then shows up in my drive way. I get off my mower and walk up to the officer and ask him if I can help him. He says someone reported a firearm being discharged in the area. I said yes it was me. He then grills me and tells me it's illegal and a liability to fire a gun in the area. I tell him it's county and I am well within my legal rights. I hear the County officer confirm over the radio and confirm that it is County. He stalls and say a couple other snide remarks and turns and leaves.

So going forward what should I do when I want to shoot my gun in my yard. What should I keep in mind they could bust my balls on. Do I have the right to shoot whatever and when ever "common sense does apply" as long as I don't violate the noise ordinance? I'm not out firing my AR with BETA mag I just shoot a few rounds here or there if I get a new gun or what not.

Sounds like you're covered and the county guy backed you up. Keep doing what you're doing and eventually they'll stop coming around. If you're not breaking the law, they've got nothing to hassle you with.

+1 to you for being truthful. I had a buddy who used to legally shoot on his property out in the country. He kept getting called on and kept denying it even though I told him he had nothing to hide. Not saying it would happen but I suggested that perhaps someday when he gets pulled over by this guy he'll end up with a ticket instead of a warning.

Your neighbor is using the "law" as a weapon to shut you down. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's a lot you can do about that. I'd recommend: be considerate...don't shoot real early or real late. Make sure you're shooting in a safe manner. Be as good a neighbor as reasonableness would allow. I'm not saying lay down and be run over, but don't give your neighbor easy nits to pick.

Had it happen tome when I used to have a place in the county. After numerous calls I was on a first name basis with the DNR and state police. They even asked what I was shooting and I offered them a chance to shoot, which they declined each time.

Basically they said just be safe and have a good backstop and that they had to report in on the call. Never had an issue, but you hate to see the police roll up every time you pop a few off.

As already stated, be observant of the time and the neighbor that is calling. As for the state guy, if he comes back and gives you a hard time, call the sheriff.

Something definitely failed but I'm not convinced it was the thread.

You and this thread have failed miserably. This has been tried before right here on INGO https://www.indianagunowners.com/forums/break_room/133415-semi_driver_mangles_school_buses.html :noway::noway:

serpicostraight is an ass and should be banned, he brings nothing of value to this site. NOTHING. That's what you should have made this thread about, not his chosen profession.

I know his kind, he is the guy in the back of the truck stop looking for lot lizards EVERY NIGHT. He's the guy who tries to back into the easiest spot 20 times before giving up and parking next the scales. Then he goes into the truck stop and brags about how good of a driver he is. He probably works for Swift or Schneider because nobody else will hire him. I'm even willing to bet his wife left him for another woman. Probably a woman cop. That would explain a lot now wouldn't it?

Now Phylodog, I'm not sure if you've ever read any of my posts or not. I have spent time defending cops when they were right and bashing the ones who were wrong. Here is the last cop thread I have posted in https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...cussion/200464-another_punk_with_a_badge.html I see you even posted in there. As far as I know only 1 truck driver was bashing cops there and 1 truck driver was defending cops. When will you look into the professions of everyone else and bash them?

Now Phylodog is on the same worthless list as serpicostraight.

Interestingly enough I logged in a week ago to look into become an advertiser on this site and came across this thread first. I'm glad I did, I wouldn't want to spend my money not only supporting this site but advertising on it also. Sucks for INGO that those 2 morons are making this site lose money now.

Now for everyone wanting to see a shooter. Here's your chance, ban me PLEASE so I wont even be tempted to come back. I can start spewing off 4 letter words if you need me to. One way or another you will have to ban me and while your at it ban my IP I will get my gun news from somewhere else.

.40cal has it right, but then, we live in a pretty gun friendly county. I would be outside right now doing a night fire with NVG's and the PAQ-4 laser that is on one of my AR's if it happened to me. Well, scratch that, all my neighbors would be over with me and we would waste a lot of ammo:D

Have you tried talking to the complaining neighbor?
The police wouldn't identify "the neighbor" but I know it wasn't either of my direct neighbors because they came over after the cops left and asked what was going on. I've lived here all my life and those neighbors have known me since I was in diapers they wouldn't call the police on me. I thought I was pretty cool with all my surrounding neighbors but I guess someone had their panties in a bunch today.

Could be neighbors farther away then you think too. We had people call on us from a subdivision that was over a mile away.
