You need to carry in a manner you are comfortable with. Just realize you have a paperweight in your hand when you draw. Don't plan on a criminal opting to give you any time to think or act. They stack the deck against you as it is. But again, do what you are comfortable with.

Thanks all. I think I will look for a good holster to protect the trigger and start carrying with a round in chamber. Sounds like it is more common than I thought.

    A holler in Kentucky
Couple days ago, as I was getting out of my truck in my driveway, a large pit bull type dog approached me, I'd never seen the dog before. I had a 6 pack of beer, in bottles, and my lunch cooler, so I switched both items to my left hand so I could draw my 745 (with one in the pipe) if need be, no way I could have racked a round into the chamber without dropping my beer, and that wasn't gonna happen.

Oh, and that big dog was very non aggressive, he had a collar and looked to be well fed, but when I went back out to see if I could get a name off his collar he was gone.

I like your priorities and your choice of firearms. :D

Glad to hear your beer was okay.

Then why is it "not wise" to carry a Glock?

    Well...

I keep reading people tell him to keep a round in the chamber when hes out and about. IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE DOING THIS THEN DONT! Thats an accident waiting to happen. An easy practice and training for this is to wear your gun with a round in the chamber when you are at home or where you know there is almost a zero chance you will have to draw your weapon. Get used to the idea knowing there is a round there.
