Then again, extend your logic. Do you think perhaps some of the reason that it took so long to memorialize Lee and Jackson was also pushback from people for whom the issues that the War Between the States brought to a head were still fresh in their minds and who were reluctant to accept any memorialization of the ideas and heroes of the other side? Could the lengthy period of time between the cessation of hostilities and this memorial have some non-sinister causation?
