Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Wow, you are very wrong, as others have informed you... you apparently failed to read the Indiana Code that you posted... 1) There is NO legal requirement to have ID on you. 2) You are only required to identify yourself to a LEO if you are suspected of committing some crime. 3) If you do...

Carry at Concerts, Pro Sporting Events?

Quit thinking like a lib. The whole point of citizen carry is to DETER crime and interject if necessary. A whack job is going to be far less likely to try and pull something at an event where he doesn't know who is carrying than at a concert or other place where it's a 'gun free zone.' Common...

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Ultimately I have no doubt that the time will come in which there is the ability to digitally certify a drivers license as valid, probably in the form NFC or similar. It would be very easy for the officer to use his phone to exchange an encrypted data stream with your phone (simply bump it) and...

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

The question is with regard to not carrying a wallet, not only those two items, though those two items are the most troublesome from a legal perspective, hence the thread.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

I think you're missing the point. In the aforementioned scenario you are NOT reuqired to have your DL or LTCH on your person, therefore showing an electronic copy is going above and beyond.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Umm a LEO can't just TAKE your property. That's called illegal seizure. If you don't hand it to him, they can't TAKE it.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Scroll up... I would NOT recommend handing your phone over to a LEO. Simply show them the image.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

      1. You're in Lake County, so you may as well be part of Chicago, and I'm not really surprised with regard to your attitude. 2. You'll hear about later when you get sued under IC 34-13-342 and/or U.S.C. §1983 for false arrest, especially since (provided the person was not operating a motor...

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Yeah many people carry those on their phones now too... many people have an ICE contact in their phone (in case of emergency) or some even have an emergency app on their home screen which details their medical history, medication, emergency contact information, insurance information, etc.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

No problem, thanks for the welcome, it sounds like the official answer to the question "do you need it on your person" is DL: YES, and LTCH: NO. Well that was half the answer I was looking for. :) Would still be interested in real world experiences on the matter.

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

This the kind of comment I specifically was not looking for... pure opinion / speculation. :-) BTW, the time is coming when digital copies of those items MUST be honored by law (just like digital signatures / acceptances must be honored now)... we're not there yet when it comes to drivers...

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Thanks Hoosierdood, that information definitely helps. To your point about handing over the phone... I think the intelligent thing to do would be to present the image to the officer by showing them, not physically handing over your phone. I'm also a pilot, and I've been told instructors...

Carrying Handgun License / Drivers License on your Person?

Thanks ATM that's good to know. So at least if anything were to happen as a result of not having it on your person, it would all be thrown out. However, that leads to the question/concern that it's essentially at the officer's discretion as to whether or not he would charge someone under...
