I would point out that the high estimate here is extremely unlikely, even with no attempts at population control due to the availability of phosphorus in the biosphere. In terms of its abundance in living things vs its availability from the biosphere it is the rarest critical element for life...
Population growth is logistic - the leading edge of logistic growth looks just like exponential, but true exponential growth doesn't exist in the real world. That minor error leads to all sorts of apocalyptic projections that never actually come to pass. Granted that the turn-down at the peak of...
It IS the draft pool - the Federal Militia law is where the legal authority for a military draft originates. I'm guessing that's also the main reason the Feds haven't pushed to repeal it.
Because, prior to his death last year, he was "generally recognized as the greatest living rocket expert in the world", and I was proud to have known and worked for him.
Hi guys. Haven't been on here in months, and it seems tonight that there are way more trolls in here than in the days I used to come here regularly. Am I imagining this?
:fogey:
You got that right, I told a bunch of folks right after the Mumbai incident that the same attack in say, Indy, would have been stopped almost immediately - there would have been something on the order of 40-50 armed citizens among the victims alone, not including those who escaped.
I wouldn't...
There you go . . . martial law by the entire local militia. I think I could live with that under the circumstances you described.
I assume, of course, that the zombies are not included in the militia.
Are progressives considered zombies?
:oldwise:
Funny, I always thought the ACLU counted to ten this way:
1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 . . .
I see by the following poster that I was mistaken:

Hmm. 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 14, 15, 19 . . .
My bad.
My feelings exactly. It should be like jury duty, and anyone who actually wants to do it should be disqualified. Give me the one who has to be dragged kicking and screaming into the office, then kept there by a couple of burly guards.
Given the fact that despite the uncounted words he's already spoken, he does not appear to have come up with a true one yet, I strongly suspect the man is utterly incapable of saying a true word - probably even by accident.
Like many of his cronies, I'm pretty sure he would immediately shrivel...
Something roughly similar to this happened while I was in the Air Force, during Nixon's Presidency. Combat exposure types (some, anyway - me for instance) were told to keep a carry bag with them at all times and be ready for a rapid deployment stateside . . . etc, etc. Orders were alledgedly...
Somehow I have my doubts.
Sounds too good to be true . . . probably is . . . however if the military actually were to back such a thing up I'd say it would be a done deal.
Not likely at this point.
