Here's a parts list for the gun as it sits. It's in its completed form, sans the planned AimPoint, can, and possibly a small light.
--- Weight of the gun as shown (empty USGI 20 round mag inserted) is 6.0 pounds on my likely somewhat inaccurate home scale ---
--- Overall length is 25.25"...
Three months with no updates; I'm sure you were all on the figurative edges of your seats!
Well, here she is. Just a few quick and dirty high-ISO shots. I'll do a proper photo shoot sometime soon. No can or AimPoint yet. We are in the process of buying a home, so I'm lucky its completed to a...
No obligation at all. Regarding the decision to stake or not stake a castle nut, I fail to see any negatives to doing so that are applicable to my gun (for example, I won't be frequently changing buffer tubes for fun). However, there are theoretical, and possibly very real, benefits to staking...
Go for it. I've not found a negative, so long as one of the rail designs fits what you want to do with your build. Quality is top notch, and the weight of the combined upper and rail is rather low. Aero lists the assembled upper as 11.2 ounces and the 12" keymod rail as 8.0 ounces. Keep in mind...
Thanks for the recommendation. I don't think I want to do that, as it would add another point of possible failure to this gun. 300 blackout was designed to not need an adjustable gas block to function, especially in instances where one of the extremes of function is not required. In my case, I...
They won't let anybody know the size of their gas port, and I've read that it's large enough to create a fairly overgassed gun shooting suppressed supersonic rounds.
Why do you consider their barrels the best?
Bumping for an informative blurb in the original post regarding the Thordsen kit and its legal use, which I feel may be useful for those considering its purchase.
Also, what's the best 8-9" 300 blackout barrel on the market? I'd rather have a too-small gas port than a too-large one. I will...
The matching rail to my M4E1 upper came in today. It's a 9-inch Aero Precision enhanced keymod unit that attaches with only eight T20 torx-head screws and provides a rock-solid fit and an entirely uninterrupted top rail. The addition called for a photo shoot. Sadly, this is how the gun will sit...
It's a part of the forging, and the assembly is supposed to feel like a monolithic upper. It fits most BAR style rails. The rail needs to be designed to mount to the nut with 8 small screws, as Aero Precision's rail in the photos in the below link.
Aero Precision M4E1 Enhanced Upper & Handguard...
I am hoping that Aero gives out a site-wide discount code, as I'd love to snag the matching 9" keymod rail while they are in stock. The integrated mount is ingenious.
The port door is lighter than mil-spec, too.
What are the odds that I can keep the whole build with optic and can under six...
Two new photos. My new pistol with some of his pistol friends. The only changes are the V7 castle nut and the Seekins bolt catch. I'll say this much; I'll never install another roll pin that isn't coiled. C-pins can kiss my hindquarters. I was most apprehensive about this install, and it was...

Understand that it is a full breakdown, and with most pieces you purchase an assembly (charging handle, for example, will be a complete assembly with the requisite parts, pins, et cetera included.
Also, understand that you may not...
It's very plasticky, though I expect it to function just fine. The castle nut sucks, and I'll be swapping the buffer and spring to something heavier. Still, the fact that it saves $200 makes it a great value. All of the plastic does serve to make it fairly lightweight. Length of pull is short...
Thanks guys. There are a few very unique parts that really excite me about the build, such as the integrated rail mount in the M4E1 upper. Still, the Thordsen kit is probably the most brilliant of the bunch. Their website has downloadable PDFs of the ATF's response to the company that states...
Photo updated to the gun's current configuration.
This will be my first AR of any kind, so I figured I'd go off the deep end and build it up the way I want it. I intend to use this thread as a place to post photos and ask questions along the way. The gun will be for my own education, fun...
Good evening all,
I've been planning a rifle for quite some time now, and I have learned much over the last year of slowly researching this build. I'm now ready to amass a bunch of parts with this year's Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas sales, and I want to pick your collective brains...
Selling a CMI 25 rounder for the M1A. Never even loaded. I bought it when they were scarce and I was planning to pickup a walnut stock Scout Squad. I'm available to meet in downtown Indy most evenings, but I don't really want to travel from there for an item this cheap. Save a few bucks compared...
4/4 Range Update:
The new XDs and I visited ITP early this afternoon for its first break-in session. We (the gun and I) were greeted by an empty indoor ange in emjoyed complete solitude with no other shooters for 20 minutes of our half-hour shoot. Working weekends at a hospital, and...
I've yet to get a chance to shoot it. I refuse to go to ITP's range on a Saturday. I'm hoping to get a couple hundred rounds through it in the next week or two. I'll post my thoughts here afterwards.
On another note, I just ordered an IWB kydex holster from Cook's Holsters in OD carbon-look...
