Vortex sent me a new Venom not long ago and I took off the 2X Leupold that was on my my 617-1 and mounted the new Venom on there. This was from July 5th , everyone must have been worn out from the 4th as I had the range to myself and tried 12 shots at 25 yds and 12 shots at 50 yds from standing firing SA. Evidently the 10 ring at 50 had some kind of force field thing going.

    Thanks for posting!
I would have to be on a rest and not sure I could do that.
    25' & 50' maybe. :dunno:
Nice shooting as far as I'm concerned.

Well thank you! I have been shooting handguns for 33 years so I should at least have something to show for it!

Range time at 25 yds. outdoor & 10 yds indoor with a Ruger Mark 3 with a red dot & a Mark 4 with a 4x30 fixed scope, bought both off the same member.
Could me more of a test of a red dot vs a scope.

Both Mark 3 & Mark 4 at 10 yds. indoor: close.

25 yds. outdoor with the Mark 3 with red dot.
    Nothing impressive here.

Some nice tight groups at the 30ft with Mark 3 and red dot , actually tighter than MK 4 with scope. Seeing your movement magnified by the 4x scope can be distracting.

I was warned about a fixed x4 EER pistol scope! :dunno:
Someone was just telling me just today at the range that dialing down my magnification at 100 yds could improve my groups with my rifles just like not going above a fixed x2 on a handgun.

Yeah when I use a scope over 2X it is usually from a very solid rest like with my TC Contender. Then I can get the crosshairs completely steady on target. Although here the TC has a 2X Burris. Was out shooting this one today. Admittedly the TC is a very easy type of handgun to benchrest.

For offhand shooting with a handgun scope I still find I shoot my best targets with the old Burris 1X target dot bullseye scopes.

    Beautiful gun!
I don't so any offhand shooting anymore.
I can't keep the crosshairs steady even with my hands on a rest. :ugh:

Picked up a Sig Sauer 938-22LR last Sunday.
You can buy an adapter kit for the 938 9mm, but in 2014 Sig made a dedicated gun that they sold in 2014, which I think the .22LR dedicated version has been discontinued now.
The extended magazine gives a good purchase.
The black electrical tape is to hold both safeties on since when I cleaned it the right safety flew off.
Same thing happened when I had the 9mm version of the 938 (if you move the safeties up to far when slide is off, the spring will come flying out.
I found 1 small part (that fits between the safety & the spring, but the spring is missing & I'll have to find out if it's the only part missing. :wallbash:

I had to try it out even though I've given up on other micro-compacts.
Didn't buy the Ruger LCP II .22LR pistol after shooting one at Point Blank.

I plan to go to the indoor range tomorrow for more definitive results, but these are the outdoor results today.
These were taken at 20 & 30' with the upper right and left corners being free hand, along with the middle target.
The other were done on a hand rest.

Got to spend some indoor time with the Sig Sauer 938-22LR.
I really like this gun as a micro-compact .22LR, not disappointed.

    - 150 rds: No FTT, FTE or jams
    - When you are chambering the 1st rd of a mag you must do so hard & release quickly
    - Aim a little high: put front dot over POI
    - Used CCI Mini mags, 1235 FPS, 40 grain

I had to deliver this to a friend today, since I bought it for him since he was out of town for the weekend & wanted it.
I did so, b/c even if he changed his mind, I didn't mind owning it anyway.
When he get through playing with it, I'll probably buy it from him unless I've bought a rifle or two for the outdoor range.

I was surprised on how accurate it was for a micro.
The red targets are 4" square & the little square blue ones are 7/8 inch.

we will see how it shoots today. Gonna run five or six brands of ammo thru it. Such a good feeling gun in the hand

Been spending so much time with rifles at MCFG that I decided to go indoors with the .22LR handguns (4 semi-autos & 1 revolver).
Everything is labeled with gun & distance.

The lower left Sig 938-22 is the one I had bought for a friend since he was out of town, but I ended up trading a beautiful Rossi revolver (stainless w/walnut groups) for it & got it back.
I really like it as a micro-compact since I used to love the small Beretta & Taurus tip-up barrels for years.
This one actually fires at 15' & 21' very well, but I lose control at 30'.

I was very pleased with how the Ruger Single-Action Hunter revolver shot.
I was hacked that my 4th round was outside the red circle.
It is a pleasure to shoot!

I like shooting the Beretta 87, but the Ruger Mark 3 continues to shoot as well for less than 1/3 the price. :dunno:
Only about 250 rounds today, which is what I'm trying to limit myself to.

Got a little range time in with my TX22 today. No pictures but I did check velocity of 3 different rds in it.

    CCI SV TX22
    Shots: 10
    Average: 897 ft/s
    SD: 15 ft/s
    Min: 873 ft/s
    Max: 911 ft/s
    Spread: 38 ft/s
    Power Factor Average: 35
    Power Factor Low: 34
    Power Factor High: 36
    Barometric Pressure: 30 in Hg
    Temperature: 72 F
    Weight: 40.0 gr.

    Federal Range Target Practice TX22
    Shots: 10
    Average: 608 ft/s
    SD: 44 ft/s
    Min: 523 ft/s
    Max: 672 ft/s
    Spread: 149 ft/s
    Power Factor Average: 24
    Power Factor Low: 20
    Power Factor High: 26
    Barometric Pressure: 30 in Hg
    Temperature: 72 F
    Weight: 40.0 gr.

    Federal AutoMatch TX22
    Shots: 10
    Average: 695 ft/s
    SD: 12 ft/s
    Min: 673 ft/s
    Max: 712 ft/s
    Spread: 39 ft/s
    Power Factor Average: 27
    Power Factor Low: 26
    Power Factor High: 28
    Barometric Pressure: 30 in Hg

For some reason the CCI SV was shooting over 200fps faster than the other 2 HV rounds.

Different powder burn rates? I'll bet the other two have larger fireballs.

This is interesting. Going to buy more SV and try them out in the pistol. I believe you are correct on SV using a faster burning powder thus more efficient in a short barrel. I wonder if those stingers use a fast burning powder also to get that much speed out of a 22lr case.

What are your initial thoughts on the TX22? Seems to be one of the better products made by Taurus from what I've read.

https://www.indianagunowners.com/forums/handguns/468111-taurus-tx22.html?468111=#post7910125 info and photos of leading later in this thread.

Seems to be a good pistol except it is hit or miss on whether you get a barrel that leads up quickly and badly or not.

Mine leaded up in 150 rounds. While they will provide replacement barrels, these are hit or miss as well. My replacement barrel's rifling only looks moderately better than the original. I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

My suggestion is to skip it if you want a suppressor host as the SV waxed lead bullets are more likely to create leading than the HV copper washed bullets (just my untested theory). As a plinker with copper washed bullets you might have better odds.

Tx22 is best polymer non target style 22 I’ve shot and it’s not even close. Glock 44 probably the worst. Sr22 and walther fall between for me.
